Baskin-Robbins Announces Two New Shops in San Diego

Gary Yarbrough to Open Two Locations in Chula Vista in the Next Two Years

CANTON, Mass., Dec. 15, 2011 // PRNewswire // -- Baskin-Robbins, the world's largest chain of ice cream shops, announced today the signing of a store development agreement in San Diego. New franchisees Gary and Maria Yarbrough plan to open two shops in the Eastlake and Chula Vista areas, providing residents with Baskin-Robbins' full array of frozen treats. The first location is slated to open by April 2012 in the Eastlake area of Chula Vista, with a second Chula Vista shop following in 2013.

Gary has been a San Diego resident for 31 years, spending the last 16 in La Mesa. He comes to Baskin-Robbins from McDonald's, where he was director of operations for a franchisee in Southern California. In that position, he supervised 15 restaurants and over 550 employees.

"Baskin-Robbins has been providing quality ice cream products for more than 60 years, and we are excited to expand our footprint in San Diego with franchisee Gary Yarbrough," said Grant Benson, CFE, vice president of franchising and market planning, Dunkin' Brands, Inc. "We're confident Gary will spread the fun and unique flavors of America's Favorite Ice Cream Shop to guests in and around the Chula Vista community."

In addition to the agreement mentioned above, Baskin-Robbins is still seeking franchisees to develop shops in San Diego. Opportunities for development also exist throughout San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento, among other cities.

"Additional Baskin-Robbins stores will satisfy a growing demand in San Diego for high-quality ice cream, specialty frozen desserts and beverages," said Benson. "For generations, Baskin-Robbins has become the brand of choice for consumers and has consistently delighted them with our irresistible flavors and treats. We look forward to having an even larger presence in the communities of San Diego."

Over six decades ago, Baskin-Robbins was founded by two ice cream enthusiasts who shared a dream to create an innovative ice cream store that would be a neighborhood gathering place for families. Today, over 300 million people visit Baskin-Robbins each year to sample the more than 1,000 flavors available in its ice cream library, as well as enjoy its full array of frozen treats including ice cream cakes, frozen beverages and sundaes.
