January 24, 2012 // Franchising.com // VANCOUVER, Wash. - Papa Murphy's International today announced it has joined the 2012 American Cancer Society Relay For Life® National Team Program. Employees and franchise owners will come together this year to raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer. All funds raised will support the American Cancer Society's efforts to save lives by helping people stay well, get well, find cures, and fight back against a disease that has taken far too much from too many.
"Papa Murphy's is proud to be a part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life National Corporate Team Program. Our commitment will help raise funds to save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays," said Ken Calwell, Papa Murphy's CEO.
Relay For Life National Corporate Team Program members commit to forming 50 or more relay teams throughout the country and in every major office or location. Papa Murphy's is one of 51 companies participating in the Relay For Life National Corporate Team Program in 2012. The fifth largest pizza chain now boasts over 1,300 locations in 37 states and Canada, all of which have a nearby Relay For Life event.
An American Cancer Society Relay For Life event lasts up to 24 hours and brings together teams from local businesses, schools, churches, and families to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.5 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
