Jersey Mike’s Subs Raises Funds For Cancer For College At Grand Opening

Owner Celebrates with Free Subs

WHO:

Steve Leonard opened his third Jersey Mike’s Subs location in the San Diego area.  Located in Escondido, this restaurant joins Leonard’s Jersey Mike’s franchises in San Marcos (opened August 2010) and Rancho Bernardo (opened July 2011).   Between those two locations, Leonard’s team has raised more than $15,000 for local community schools and sports organizations.  He has been co-area director in the greater San Diego area with partner Cathy Brown for the last three years.  

WHAT: 

A grand opening and free sub fundraiser supported Cancer for College.  Anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution. More than 5,000 coupons were distributed throughout the community.

WHERE: 

The new store is located at 1829 S Centre City Parkway, Escondido, CA.

WHEN:

• Grand Opening – Wed., Feb. 1, 2012 
• Fundraiser -- Runs 5 Days Wed., Feb. 1 through Sun., Feb. 5, 2012

WHY:

“I have the privilege of knowing the man behind the cause, the founder of Cancer for College—Craig Pollard,” said Steve Leonard. “Craig, a two-time cancer survivor, is not only an incredible mentor and visionary, but he provides resolute inspiration for so many young people with cancer.”  Steve Leonard and his team have partnered with this worthy cause for both of their previous grand openings.

Cancer for College provides financial aid to cancer survivors in the form of college scholarships.  Founder Craig Pollard witnessed firsthand the financial impact cancer can have on a family and the hope a college education can provide to a survivor. Through his organization, Craig seeks to provide hope and inspiration to cancer survivors and amputees.

Leonard exemplifies Jersey Mike’s culture of excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company's commitment to quality products, exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community.  In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
