IFA Names Dean Heyl Director, State Government Relations, Public Policy & Tax Counsel

March 16, 2012 // Franchising.com // WASHINGTON - The International Franchise Association has named Dean Heyl, a veteran lobbyist, attorney and expert on issues impacting franchise businesses as Director, State Government Relations, Public Policy & Tax Counsel.

"Dean brings to IFA a wealth of experience and expertise on franchise issues, particularly those concerning independent contractor and taxes at the state level," said IFA President & CEO Steve Caldeira. "We are thrilled to have Dean join our team as we continue our diligent pursuit to educate lawmakers and the media about the strong economic impact of franchising at the state level."

Heyl comes to IFA from the Direct Selling Association, where he was Director of Government Relations in addition to serving as an attorney for the association for almost nine years.  In this capacity, he was responsible for lobbying at the local, state and federal level, providing legal analysis, and liaison activities with Republican and Democrat-related organizations.

Prior to his work with DSA, he was the Executive Director for the Coalition for Affordable Accounting, focused on protecting non-CPA practice rights.  He has also held positions in the offices of the Idaho Attorney General and Governor.  Based on his accounting and tax expertise, Dean was also appointed to the Internal Revenue Service's Advisory Council, which provides an organized public forum for IRS officials and representatives of the public to discuss relevant tax administration issues.

Heyl will join IFA March 19 and will report to IFA Senior Vice President of Government Relations & Public Policy Judith Thorman.
