Maui Wowi Hawaiian Brings Some Island Flavor to the Honda Classic PGA Golf Tournament

Maui Wowi Hawaiian Franchisee traveled south to spread the ‘Aloha Spirit’ and serve all-natural smoothies and gourmet coffee to players and spectators at the 2012 Honda Classic.

Maui Wowi Franchisee, Chris Shaw, from North Carolina, drove over 700 miles to bring all-natural, fresh fruit smoothies, and gourmet Hawaiian coffees to the players and spectators at the 2012 Honda Classic golf tournament that took place February 7-March 4.

“It was a serious road trip!” said Shaw. First stop was Naples, Florida to serve his coffee and smoothies at the Ace Group Classic, a Champions tour golf tournament for legends of the game. Players like Lee Trevino were there to show off their seasoned golf skills. After that, he headed to Palm Beach Gardens for the Honda Classic PGA Tour event, played at the PGA National Resort & Spa. “I drove across West Alligator Alley, through the Everglades, for the Honda Classic,” said Shaw.

Shaw teamed up with a fellow Maui Wowi Franchisee, Jennifer Hernandez, and had a total of three mobile Ka’anapali carts, two of which served coffee and smoothies and a third that sold smoothies with or without alcohol. “It was a great demographic. We served Hawaiian coffee in the morning and then after around 12:30 p.m., it was our time to shine!” said Shaw.

The Honda Classic brought together championship level players, Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Lee Westwood, and others, with Rory McIlroy taking the top spot and bringing home the trophy. The household names drew a record number of people. According to http://www.wptv.com, there were 161,700 spectators in attendance for the event, which is an increase of nearly 45% from last year.

For Shaw, this event was a chance of a lifetime and gave him the opportunity to work events outside of his area. “It was a serious road trip but we were happy to know that we can travel, find resources, and can count on our Franchisor to be there to help us with the logistics,” said Shaw. “It was rewarding to be that far away from home and have everything go so well.”
