Newk’s Express Café To Open 50th Restaurant

Fast-casual Restaurant Company Hits Milestone With New Location In Florida

April 09, 2012 // Franchising.com // Jackson, MS - Newk’s Express Café, a fast-casual restaurant concept offering a variety of made-to-order choices, will open its 50th restaurant Monday, April 16 in Jacksonville, Fla. The restaurant—located at 9047-1 Southside Blvd.—is the company’s first in Jacksonville and third in Florida.

“We are ecstatic about opening our 50th restaurant only eight years after our first location opened in Mississippi,” said Chris Newcomb, co-founder, president and CEO of Newk’s Express Café. “We have many more restaurants in the pipeline and expect to open at least 15 more by the end of this year. Our 50th location is in a new market and we will enter many other cities and states for the first time this year. 2012 is set to be a great year for Newk’s.”

Newk’s Express Café provides an express casual dining experience and features a variety of made-to-order choices including fresh-tossed salads, oven-baked sandwiches, California-style pizzas, made-from-scratch soups and homemade cakes baked by Newk’s Bakery Company. A selection of wines by the glass and beer is also available.

Since opening its first location in Oxford, Miss. in 2004, Newk’s Express Cafés have expanded their presence to 11 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Newk's has approximately 50 restaurants and more than 40 are franchised. Five new restaurants opened in 2010 and 15 opened in 2011. Projections call for 20 restaurants to open in 2012 and 32 to open in 2013.
