Soccer Star Offers Playing Tips In Free Video Series For Kids

Jersey Mike’s Subs Teams up with U.S. Women’s National Soccer Captain

May 08, 2012 // Franchising.com // Manasquan, NJ - Christie Rampone, the Captain of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, and mother of two, will star in a new series of 10 instructional videos for kids from Jersey Mike’s Subs. On each brief video, Rampone will teach a different soccer skill such as dribbling, shooting and shielding.

Jersey Mike’s, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, will release a new video each week for 10 weeks, leading up to Rampone’s appearance at the summer games in London. To view the free videos, children, with their parents, can scan a QR code in the restaurants or visit the Jersey Mike’s web site at http://www.jerseymikes.com/Christie.

“I grew up on Jersey Mike’s subs at the Shore, eating them before and after practice,” said Rampone, a Jersey Shore native. “Now my kids are enjoying them – it’s a meal I can feel good about as a mom.” To celebrate the partnership, Rampone will be featured on a special Jersey Mike’s 24 ounce reusable plastic cup, known as the “Christie Cup.” For the regular combo price, customers will get a free cup and 2 extra ounces of their chosen drink.

Known for her extraordinary athleticism, intelligence and leadership, Rampone is considered to be the greatest defender in the game. With two daughters, she is the only mother on the team yet she remains the team’s fastest and most durable player. Rampone is currently the most capped active female player in the world. She is also the most decorated, with honors that include a World Cup Championship and two Olympic Gold Medals.

“Christie is an excellent role model, who shares the same values related to excellence, perseverance and giving back to the community that we have at Jersey Mike’s,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO. “Through football at Point Pleasant Beach High, I knew Christie’s grandfather. She has strong Jersey Shore roots and she grew up on Jersey Mike’s Subs. Sports, and other extracurricular activities, are so important to a child’s growth and these tips from Christie will help get kids excited about learning new skills and wanting to do their very best.”

Jersey Mike’s has long been a supporter of programs for children. In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributing more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes. Most recently, Jersey Mike’s, with its generous customers, raised nearly $858,000 for 74 children’s charities across the country as part of its 2nd Annual Month of Giving initiative.

Jersey Mike’s hopes to appeal to busy parents, shuttling children from school to sports practices and other activities, who are looking for fast, healthy meal options.
