Expert Plumbing Advice From Mr Rooter - Includes Simple Steps to Installing T-Fittings

Mr Rooter Tip Of The Day: Fittings do not come with marks that show how far the pipe fits into each end, but Bob Beall explains trade secrets to assist the homeowner on this project.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) November 26, 2012 -

Supply Pipes – Repair and Installation

“Sometimes it is necessary to cut a T into an existing water line when the homeowner wants to add lines to the supply system in the home,” says Bob Beall, the most referred and trusted Pittsburgh plumber. For example, explains Beall, the homeowner my want to add a bar sink or perhaps a completely new bath. “You can install the T the hard way, of course, soldering copper or gluing CPVC,” says Mr Rooter.

You can also just cut the pipe and use a push-on T-fitting. “You still want to get rid of the water pressure and as much residual water as possible, but any left over water in the lines won’t hurt the fittings or slow you down as it would if you were soldering or gluing the pipe,” says Beall. The fittings do not come with marks that show how far the pipe fits into each end. The procedure described in this expert plumbing advice Mr Rooter Tip Of The Day is the same whether you use copper, CPVC or PEX.

Trade Secret: If wanted, (but not required) you can mark both pipe and fitting for an easier and more accurate installation.

Mr Rooter Tip Of The Day

Tip #1 Hold the T adjacent to the pipe and mark the pipe where it needs to be cut. This will insure that the cut ends bottom out in the fitting properly.

Tip #2 Cut the pipe at the cut marks (be sure to sand down sharp edges).

Tip #3 To make sure the pipe bottoms out fully, hold the fitting parallel to it and mark the pipe at the ends of the fitting.

Tip #4 Insert both pipe ends into the fitting so they go in full depth.

Tip #5 Insert the tap pipe, in the fitting to its full depth.
