East Coast Sub Sensation Opens First Springfield Location

Owners Celebrate Grand Opening with Free Subs

December 18, 2012 // Franchising.com // SPRINGFIELD, Ill., – Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, officially opened its doors in Springfield on December 12. Franchise owners Tony Rubba and G Abu Saba held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, December 12 to Sunday, December 16 to support Sacred Heart-Griffin High School and The Salvation Army.

The new restaurant, located at 2318 W. Wabash Avenue, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Sacred Heart-Griffin High School and The Salvation Army. Of the 10,000 coupons, 2,500 were designated for donations to Sacred Heart-Griffin High School and 2,500 were designated for donations to The Salvation Army. The remaining 5,000 coupons were for a donation to both organizations.

Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s continued its steady growth in 2011 opening 69 new restaurants throughout the country, a 15 percent increase overall. The popular sub shop wins best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.

Tony Rubba and G Abu Saba exemplify Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company's commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

“As business owners, we feel an obligation to give back to the communities that help us thrive,” said Rubba. “We are committed to making an impact here in Springfield, which is why we chose to partner with both The Salvation Army and Sacred Heart-Griffin High School for our grand opening fundraiser. The Salvation Army is currently housing a large number of homeless people and feeding 160 families every day. Many people turn to The Salvation Army for support during the holiday season and we are happy to assist this wonderful organization. In addition, partnering with Sacred Heart-Griffin High School gives us an opportunity to help fund extracurricular activities and programs that students rely on each year.”

Passionate Jersey Mike's fans crave their subs made Mike's Way™ with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike's more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.

This is the first Jersey Mike’s location for Tony Rubba and G Abu Saba.
