East Coast Sub Sensation Opens 1st Location in Colorado Springs

Owners Celebrate Grand Opening with Free Subs

Colorado Springs, CO - May 1, 2013 - Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, officially opened its doors in Colorado Springs on May 1. Franchise owners Tim and Christy Holliday held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, May 1 to Sunday, May 5 to support the Wounded Warrior Project and Crawford House Colorado Veterans Resource Coalition.

The new restaurant, located at 737 N. Academy Boulevard, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Wounded Warrior Project and Crawford House Colorado Veterans Resource Coalition. Half of these coupons will be designated for donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, with the other half being designated for donations to Crawford House Colorado Veterans Resource Coalition.

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families. On that date, America watched in horror as approximately 3,000 people died including hundreds of firefighters and rescue workers. Many warriors note a sense of duty to volunteer for the military following these tragic events.

The Colorado Veterans Resource Coalition Crawford House program provides safe emergency housing for veterans in the Colorado Springs area who are homeless and receiving VA-provided mental health care, and it provides a temporary structured living environment for veterans in VA-provided substance abuse rehabilitation. Veterans are also accepted from neighboring states for the rehab program. The Crawford House program is the only program of its kind in Colorado: a private, non-profit veterans' residential treatment facility.

Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike's continued its steady growth in 2012 opening 92 new restaurants throughout the country, a 33 percent increase in new store growth over 2011.

Tim and Christy Holliday exemplify Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company's commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised almost $7 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

“We are so excited to be opening our first Jersey Mike’s location in beautiful Colorado Springs,” said Tim Holliday. “As a business owner, what attracted me to Jersey Mike’s was this company’s small town business feel. I particularly love the old-fashioned, deli-style service. When customers ask me what prosciuttini is, I tell them, ‘I can’t pronounce it either, but here, try a slice!’”

Holliday added, “At Jersey Mikes we are quickly redefining the word fresh. We are doing this by taking every measure to ensure a quality product goes out the door. We do things like cook our roast beef on-site each and every day and freshly slice all our meats and cheeses for each sub sandwich. We pile all these ingredients on freshly baked bread to create a truly authentic food experience. Everything is quickly made to order in full-view of each customer- just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike's more than fifty years ago! On top of great service, Jersey Mike’s commitment to making a difference really resonates with me. Like many families in Colorado Springs, we are a military family. In fact, my wife Christy is a 1991 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. For us, giving back to the Wounded Warrior project and the Crawford House Colorado Veterans Resource Coalition is especially meaningful. We are grateful for this opportunity to open our doors and support many service men and women who have defended our country.”

Passionate Jersey Mike's fans crave their subs made Mike's Way™ with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike's more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.

This is Tim and Christy Holliday’s first Jersey Mike’s location.
