Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, officially opened its doors in Lavallette on June 12. Restaurant operator Evan Mayer held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, June 12 to Sunday, June 16 to support Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company NO. 1.

The new restaurant, located at 604 Grand Central, circulated 4,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company NO. 1.

Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike's continued its steady growth in 2012 opening 92 new restaurants throughout the country, a 33 percent increase in new store growth over 2011.

The Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company NO. 1 responds to all fire emergencies in Lavallette and conducts mutual aid to Ocean Beach, Ortley Beach, Seaside Heights, and Seaside Park. Lavallette firefighters were among the many brave first responders before, during, and after Superstorm Sandy. The company is comprised entirely of volunteer firefighters and junior firefighters. In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, the Lavallette Firehouse has been the headquarters for the Fire Department as well as the Lavallette Police Department.

Mayer exemplifies Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects restaurant operators who share the company's commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised almost $7 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

“This grand opening in Lavallette is a very special event not only for Jersey Mike’s, but also for the residents and tourists at the Jersey Shore,” said Mayer. “We are thrilled for the opportunity to partner with the Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company to help them rebuild their firehouse and thank them for all that they continue to do in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. The Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company was among the first responders when Sandy hit and they are true heroes for the Jersey Shore. We have waited a long time to open our doors down the road from our flagship location in Point Pleasant Beach and we are gearing up for another fun and exciting summer. The people here are Lavallette Strong, and the town has shown their commitment to rebuilding by helping people get back into their homes and making sure local businesses are up and running for another busy summer season.”

Passionate Jersey Mike's fans crave their subs made Mike's Way™ with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike's more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.
