Oklahoma SONIC Drive-Ins Organize Fundraiser for Tornado Relief

SONIC’s Famous Tots Will Help Those Hit Hardest

OKLAHOMA CITY - June 25, 2013 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - On Wednesday, June 26, for every order of Tots sold all Oklahoma SONIC Drive-In (NASDAQ: SONC) locations will donate $1 to United Way of Central Oklahoma to continue to support relief and recovery efforts following the recent tornado devastation in Oklahoma. SONIC’s Tots – crispy potato bites available as a meal side or snack – are one of the more popular items on the menu.

Oklahoma SONIC fans are encouraged to visit their local SONIC Drive-In on Wednesday, June 26, to order Tots during this one-day fundraising initiative. SONIC Drive-In and its Oklahoma franchise partners hope to raise $50,000.

“We’ve witnessed the devastating impact of the recent tornados along with the rest of our home state,” said Cliff Hudson, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Sonic Corp. “SONIC, our franchisees and staff all felt the need to offer additional assistance. This effort is just another way we can help our neighbors rebuild.”

“The funds raised from SONIC’s Tot sales on this day will all go directly to those impacted by the recent tornados and will provide much needed support to the recovering community,” said Debby Hampton, president and chief executive officer of United Way of Central Oklahoma.

SONIC and its Oklahoma franchise partners were quick to respond in aiding its home state. Days after the first tornado struck, SONIC made a $100,000 cash and in-kind financial commitment to the Red Cross of Central & Western Oklahoma, the United Way of Central Oklahoma's Tornado Relief Fund and the SONIC Disaster Relief Fund. SONIC also provided thousands of meals to first responders and relief agencies and coordinated water, ice and sanitizer deliveries in the area. Some of SONIC’s iconic Carhops also pooled tips from one day to donate to local relief efforts.
