Jersey Mike's Celebrates 10 Years in Austin with 3 New Locations

Owners Sharing Family and Community Ties Will Focus on Giving Back

August 23, 2013 // Franchising.com // AUSTIN, Texas – Building on its four existing Austin locations, Jersey Mike’s Subs celebrated 10 years of serving its fresh sliced/fresh grilled Jersey Shore-style subs to loyal Austin customers this summer when owners Mike and Jessica Cullen opened the first of three new Austin Jersey Mike’s locations on Wednesday, August 14.

The restaurant, located at 2700 W. Anderson Lane, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Little Helping Hands in Austin whose mission is to engage young children and their families in community service and inspire lifelong volunteerism.

Two additional locations will open later this summer in Pflugerville and in Bee Cave at the Hill Country Galleria and will also hold local community fundraisers. The owners of all three new restaurants share strong family and community ties.

This is the first Jersey Mike’s location for Mike and Jessica Cullen but their connection to the sub sensation goes back 10 years when Mike’s brother Steve and his wife Yvonne opened the first Austin Jersey Mike’s in the Arboretum at Great Hills. Steve and Yvonne Cullen, also Jersey Mike’s area directors, currently operate three Jersey Mike’s restaurants and will open their fourth in Bee Cave next month. Another Jersey Mike’s currently operating in Austin is owned by Yvonne’s brother, Manny Hernandez. The Cullen families are longtime residents of Austin.

In Pflugerville, partners Jason Odom, his father, Jerry Odom, and Chris Cho expect to open a Jersey Mike’s in late August. All three live in New Braunfels.

“Austin is such a great food town and we are excited to share our fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs with our new neighbors,” said Mike Cullen. “We’ve been in love with Jersey Mike’s fresh food and culture of giving back since my brother and his wife opened the first location in Austin back in 2003. We are proud to now officially be part of the Jersey Mike’s family.”

The three new locations expect to employ more than 50 new Jersey Mike’s team members.
