Owners Celebrate Grand Opening with Free Subs

September 13, 2013 - PORTLAND, OR - Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled Jersey Shore-style subs, officially opened its doors in Portland on September 11. Franchise owners Ray and Grace Baluyut held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, September 4 to Sunday, September 8 to support De La Salle North Catholic High School.

The new restaurant, located at 628 NE Broadway, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to De La Salle North Catholic High School.

De La Salle North Catholic High School provides a faith-based, college preparatory high school education to underserved students from the Portland area. Their goal is to develop tomorrow’s community leaders by making high-quality education accessible to motivated young people in a learning environment that values cultural, spiritual, and ethnic diversity. Their educational approach provides each student with the opportunity to succeed through small classes, high expectations, and active participation in our Corporate Internship Program. We don’t turn away any capable, motivated or interested student because they cannot afford our tuition.

Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike's continued its steady growth in 2012 opening 92 new restaurants throughout the country, a 33 percent increase in new store growth over 2011.

The Baluyuts exemplify Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company's commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised almost $7 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

Passionate Jersey Mike's fans crave their subs made Mike's Way™ with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature olive oil blend, vinegar and spices. The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike's more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.

This is the third Jersey Mike’s location for the Baluyuts. In February 2013, they opened their first Jersey Mike’s location at 10123 NE Cascades Parkway in Portland. The couple also owns an additional location in Beaverton which opened in June 2013.
