Jersey Mike's Subs Opens First Washington DC Location

Owners Celebrate Grand Opening with Free Subs

December 18, 2013 - Washington, DC - Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled Jersey Shore-style subs, officially opened its doors in Washington, D.C. on December 18. Franchise owner Sean Schoonover held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, December 18 to Sunday, December 22 to support Powerful Beyond Measure.

To commemorate the event, the new restaurant, located at 2300 Washington Place, hosted a 5-day fundraiser with proceeds supporting Powerful Beyond Measure. Anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution. Thirty thousand coupons were distributed throughout the community.

Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike's continued its steady growth in 2012 opening 92 new restaurants throughout the country, a 33 percent increase in new store growth over 2011.

Schoonover exemplifies Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company's commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised almost $7 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

"With the help of some great mentors, I have been granted the opportunity to open my own Jersey Mike’s shop. Not only will this be my first location, but also our first location in Washington, D.C."

Schoonover added, "Opening our doors here creates another outlet for us to give back to the community. In fact, for the first five days that we are open we will be supporting Powerful Beyond Measure. Powerful Beyond Measure is a great organization that targets underprivileged youth and creates programs that focus on music, athletics, and the arts. Most importantly, Powerful Beyond Measure is a local cause that gives back to local youth. At Jersey Mike’s we are committed to making a difference for the communities we serve and we will begin doing so the day we open our doors, December 18."

Passionate Jersey Mike's fans crave their subs made Mike's Way® with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature olive oil blend, vinegar and spices. The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread.
