Arby's Restaurants In Roanoke and Lynchburg Donate $10,705 to Support Local Muscular Dystrophy Association

Over $140,000 Raised In Past 17 Years

Roanoke, VA (PRWEB) May 02, 2014 - The local Arby's restaurants of Roanoke and Lynchburg have been proud partners and advocates of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southwest and Central Virginia for 17 years. Over that period of time, the local Arby's restaurants have donated more than $140,000 to the organization. On April 27th of this year, Dan Lovern, Director of Operations for the local Arby's Restaurants, presented Diane Boardman, MDA's Executive Director, with a check for $10,705 for funds raised in March of this year. The Arby's/MDA relationship started with a cold-call from the MDA, received by Dan Lovern. With a strong belief in giving back to the local community, Lovern, with the support of his company, Grant Avenue Development, agreed to participate in the MDA's "Shamrocks Against Dystrophy" campaign. The campaign included Arby's restaurants selling $5 Gold shamrock mobiles and $1 Green mobiles to customers.

Over the years, Arby's commitment to the cause has grown with employees embracing the program and dedicating themselves every March to raising enough money to send local children with neuromuscular diseases to the local MDA Summer Camp at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Center at Smith Mountain Lake. "I've seen restaurant teams be very creative over the years planning special events such as dressing up as leprechauns so they can be successful and accomplish their goals," said Diane Boardman, MDA Executive Director, "They always give more than 100% to helping MDA."

Bob Kelley, Senior Vice President of Operations for Grant Avenue Development said, "We like to see the impact of the donations we are able give on behalf of our company and our customers. We're excited about the work the local MDA organization provides to the community and look forward to more successful years to come."
