Rent-A-Center Franchising Announces New Franchisee Purchasing Coney Island, N.Y. Location

June 23, 2014 // Franchising.com // PLANO, Texas – Rent-A-Center Franchising International, Inc. (RACFI), the nation’s first franchisor of independently owned-and-operated rent-to-own stores, announced today that it has reached an agreement for new franchisee Paul Anderson to purchase the Coney Island, N.Y. Rent-A-Center corporate location and take over as owner.

Anderson is a former Rent-A-Center corporate coworker, who has over 24 years of experience in the rent-to-own industry. He began working for RTO industry icon Ernie Talley at the store level, and worked his way up through the company, holding a number of roles, including 11 years as a District Manager, before making the decision to become a franchisee.

"When making this decision, I remembered how Rent-A-Center never held me back in my career," said Anderson. "The values which I have experienced with RAC are the same that I hope to continue to pass along as a franchisee. Additionally, they made the process of going from a corporate employee to a franchisee very easy."

Following the purchase of the Coney Island location, Anderson has plans to open another Rent-A-Center franchise store in the greater New York City area in the near future.

"Having worked with Paul in the past as district managers, I am very excited that my team has been able to help him realize his entrepreneurial goal of owning his own Rent-A-Center store," said Rent-A-Center Franchising International Senior Vice President Cathy Skula. "He is a seasoned operator who understands the business and cares deeply about serving his customers."

As a new Rent-A-Center franchisee, Anderson will have the full support of both RACFI and its parent company, Rent-A-Center, the world’s largest rent-to-own brand. This support will include marketing, training and finance as well as enhanced operational capabilities.
