August 15, 2014 // Franchising.com // Troy, MI - Jersey Mike's Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, opened in Troy on July 30. Franchise owners Bob Middleton, Carl Chandler, and Bill Biga held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, July 30 to Sunday, August 10 to support Gleaners Foodbank of Southeastern Michigan.
The new restaurant, located at 644 W. Big Beaver Road, circulated 20,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Gleaners Foodbank of Southeastern Michigan.
For more than 37 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities." Last year, Gleaners distributed more than 41 million pounds of emergency food to over 550 partner schools, soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 94 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor. Learn more at www.gcfb.org.
"We are excited about bringing the great taste of Jersey Mike's authentic subs to one of the most dynamic concentrations of businesses in the state," said Middleton. "This is a great place to live and we look forward to serving the wonderful people of Troy."
Biga added "During our grand opening week we're proud to support Gleaners Foodbank of Southeastern Michigan. After all, making a difference in the community is part of Jersey Mike's DNA and we welcome this opportunity to give back to our neighbors."

Since 2010, Jersey Mike's locations throughout the country have raised nearly $10 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 750,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
Started in 1956, Jersey Mike's now has 1,300 restaurants open and under development nationwide. In just three years, the company has nearly doubled in size. A 2014 Technomic report ranked Jersey Mike's in the top five fastest-growing restaurant chains with sales above $200 million.
The growth is fueled by passionate Jersey Mike's fans who crave their subs made Mike's Way® with the freshest vegetables – onions, lettuce and tomatoes – topped off with an exquisite zing of "the juice" – red wine vinegar and olive oil blended to perfection. Jersey Mike's premium meats and cheeses are sliced on the spot, piled high on in-store baked bread and served up with a helping of neighborly banter from a dedicated and high-energy team.
