Handel's Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt Franchise in Redondo Beach, Calif. Scooped Up $1 Million in Sales Last Year

Poised to Surpass that Sales Marker in 2014

Redondo Beach, Calif. - August 22, 2014 – After scooping up an impressive $1 million in sales last year, Paul Danylik, owner of the Handel's Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt franchise in Redondo Beach, Calif., says he is on track to surpass that sales marker in 2014.

The ice cream business, which opened in June 2010, has experienced 14% same-store sales growth year over year. Just last month, Danylik's store registered $125,000 in sales – all within a 1,800 sq. ft. piece of real estate.

"Honestly, the product can sell itself," said Danylik, who worked in the television syndication business for 30 years with industry leaders such as Paramount, MGM and Warner Bros., among others. "Everyone loves ice cream, and I brought the best ice cream there is to Redondo Beach."

Beyond the product, Danylik attributes his success to the shop's location and listening to his customers. After deciding to bring the Handel's franchise to Redondo Beach, Danylik did extensive research to find the most profitable piece of real estate. His window walk-up ice cream shop is within walking distance of four schools, one of which is directly across the street. In addition to real estate, Danylik launched a simple, yet highly effective, marketing campaign known as Two Buck Tuesdays that quickly turned his first-time patrons into repeat customers, and later, brand ambassadors.

"If you say, 'It's Two Buck Tuesday. Let's go get some ice cream.' Everybody knows that means to go to Handel's," added Danylik. "Over the years, I've tested out a variety of different specials every night of the week, but nothing compares to our Two Buck Tuesday business. We have lines wrapped around the building, 100-people deep."

In addition to Danylik's store in Redondo Beach, Handel's has two other franchise locations in Southern California in Upland and Rancho Cucamonga. The California locations are reporting an average unit volume of $750,000, far above the industry average.
