October 30, 2014 // Franchising.com // Tampa, FL - Jersey Mike's Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, opened in Tampa on October 22. Franchise owners John Griparis and Jeff Berns, along with operating partners Sean Cahill and Amy Vitale, held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, October 22 to Sunday, October 26 to support Anderson Elementary School, Tinker Elementary School, and Chiaramonte Elementary School.
The new restaurant, located at 3684 West Gandy Boulevard, circulated thousands of coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Anderson Elementary School, Tinker Elementary School, or Chiaramonte Elementary School.
"Jeff and I are the owners of several Jersey Mike's locations in Minnesota, and we're excited to expand our ownership to Florida," said Griparis. "Part of our decision to open in Tampa was based on giving Sean and Amy the chance to realize their dreams of being franchise owners. We believe in keeping with the Jersey Mike's tradition of creating opportunities for others to grow with the company. Just as Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike's founder and CEO, was given the chance to make something big out of a small town sub shop, we hope to continue creating career opportunities for others within the company."
"As part of our grand opening, we've teamed up with three local elementary schools for a 5-day fundraiser," he added. "Our goal is to support this community by partnering with local schools and organizations that have a positive impact for the people of Tampa."
Griparis, Berns, Cahill, and Vitale are exemplary Jersey Mike's franchise owners and operators who share the company's commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service, and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, Jersey Mike's locations throughout the country have raised nearly $10 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 750,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
Started in 1956, Jersey Mike's now has 1,300 restaurants open and under development nationwide. In just three years, the company has nearly doubled in size. A 2014 Technomic report ranked Jersey Mike's in the top five fastest-growing restaurant chains with sales above $200 million.
The growth is fueled by passionate Jersey Mike's fans who crave their subs made Mike's Way® with the freshest vegetables – onions, lettuce and tomatoes – topped off with an exquisite zing of "the juice" – red wine vinegar and olive oil blended to perfection. Jersey Mike's premium meats and cheeses are sliced on the spot, piled high on in-store baked bread and served up with a helping of neighborly banter from a dedicated and high-energy team.
The restaurant's hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. You can contact this location directly at
