SONIC Drive-In Promotes Two Key Executives to Senior Vice President Positions

Advancements Highlight Continued Focus on Developing Robust Leadership Team

OKLAHOMA CITY - November 18, 2014 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - SONIC Drive-In (NASDAQ: SONC), the nation's largest chain of drive-in restaurants, today announced the promotions of Paige Bass and Anita Vanderveer. Previously serving as vice president and general counsel, Bass now holds the title of senior vice president and general counsel. Vanderveer was promoted from vice president of people to senior vice president of people.

Bass joined SONIC in April of 2004 as associate general counsel. In February of 2007, she was promoted to vice president and general counsel, quickly establishing herself as a valuable team member and trusted business advisor to chairman Cliff Hudson, and the board of directors. As senior vice president and general counsel, Bass will continue to lead SONIC's legal department and be responsible for managing legal strategies for Sonic Corp. and its subsidiaries.

"In recent years, Paige has built a strong legal team and played a key role in several significant strategic business initiatives," said Hudson. "From our media plan to the development of new drive-in technology to our refinancing strategy, Paige has provided valuable legal counsel and been an integral part of the team and will play an even bigger role for the brand moving forward."

Bass is also an active member of the Oklahoma City community, serving as a trustee for Westminster School, a board member for Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City and Leadership Oklahoma City and a volunteer for the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and Oklahoma Lawyers for Children, as well as a member of the board of visitors for the University of Oklahoma College of Law and president of the Oklahoma County Bar Foundation. Prior to joining the SONIC team, Bass was an associate with Crowe & Dunlevy, one of the largest law firms in Oklahoma.

Vanderveer joined the SONIC team in April of 2011 as vice president of people. As the leader of SONIC's people team, she focuses on identifying the best human capital strategies that drive business results, including talent management, recruitment, people development, employee relations, payroll, benefits and compensation, recognition, internal communications and organizational design and change.

"Anita has done an excellent job developing a Great People brand strategy that has tremendously benefited our company, our field organization and franchise employees," said Hudson. "She continues to provide strong thought leadership and developed a strategic framework for aligning our human resource needs with the business plans we have for our organization."

Vanderveer began her career with Pizza Hut, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands over 25 years ago in restaurant operations and has served in a variety of human resources executive positions. She also served as vice president, human resources for Pinnacle Family of Companies based in Dallas, Texas.

Vanderveer is also involved in the community, currently a member of the Leadership Oklahoma Class XXVIII, and serves on Oklahoma City Allied Arts Board and the YWCA of OKC Human Resources Committee.

The promotions of Bass and Vanderveer reflect SONIC's continued focus on the development of its people as the critical component of the company's overall growth strategy. By strategically hiring and promoting the industry's top talent and providing them with the tools and training to succeed, SONIC's leadership team, employees and franchisees are building momentum for the brand to reach its goal of adding 1,000 new drive-ins over the next 10 years.
