March 24, 2015 // Franchising.com // San Pedro, CA - Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, opened in San Pedro on March 18. Franchise owner Alvaro Garcia held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, March 18 to Sunday, March 29 to support Port of Los Angeles High School, San Pedro High School, Baxter High School, Mary Star of the Sea High School, Dana Middle School, Park Western Elementary School, Bandini Elementary School, Point Fermin Elementary School, Crestwood Street Elementary School, Barton Hill Elementary School, and Taper Avenue Elementary School.

The new restaurant, located at 912 North Western Avenue, circulated thousands of flyers throughout the community each containing various offers. For each offer redeemed, Jersey Mike’s will make a $3 donation to Port of Los Angeles High School, San Pedro High School, Baxter High School, Mary Star of the Sea High School, Dana Middle School, Park Western Elementary School, Bandini Elementary School, Point Fermin Elementary School, Crestwood Street Elementary School, Barton Hill Elementary School, or Taper Avenue Elementary School.

"At Jersey Mike’s we believe in becoming a part of the community and pouring into our surrounding neighborhoods,” said Garcia. “We know that our fundraising efforts will affect our city, schools, and children for the next 5, 10, 15, or 20 years. It’s our philosophy that by investing in the future of our students we will not only gain lifelong customers, but more importantly that we will positively impact our youth and their education. We honestly feel that we are changing the world one sub at a time.”

Garcia is an exemplary Jersey Mike’s franchise owner who shares the company’s commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service, and who is dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised nearly $10 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 1 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes. All March long, Jersey Mike’s franchisees throughout the nation are celebrating the 5th Annual Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving. Last year, $2.1 million was raised for more than 100 different charities nationwide.

About Jersey Mike’s

Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,500 restaurants open and under development nationwide. The company was named the #1 fastest growing chain in the Nation’s Restaurant News 2014 Top 100 and continues to win best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.

The growth is fueled by passionate Jersey Mike’s fans who crave their subs made Mike’s Way® with the freshest vegetables – onions, lettuce and tomatoes – topped off with an exquisite zing of “the juice” – red wine vinegar and olive oil blended to perfection. Jersey Mike’s premium meats and cheeses are sliced on the spot, piled high on in-store baked bread and served up with a helping of neighborly banter from a dedicated and high-energy team.

This is the 25th Jersey Mike’s location for Alvaro Garcia. In June 2011, he opened his first Jersey Mike’s location in Rancho Cucamonga. Garcia also owns Jersey Mike’s locations in Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa, La Verne, Glendora, Upland, Marina del Rey, Long Beach, Culver City, Santa Ana, Santa Monica, San Dimas, Chino, Rosemead, Montebello, La Mirada, Pico Rivera, Rialto, Fontana and Chino Hills.
