August 04, 2015 // Franchising.com // Corpus Christi, TX - Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, opened in Corpus Christi on July 29. Franchise owners Bob and Gail Smith, along with general managers Clayton Smith and Tim Wear, held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, July 29 to Sunday, August 2 to support Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
The new restaurant, located at 5425 South Padre Island Drive, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $2 contribution to Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
“Before joining Jersey Mike’s, our general managers were both chefs in the restaurant business,” said Bob Smith. “Both are graduates of the Le Cordon Blue in Austin and they were eager to bite into a fresh new opportunity. Jersey Mike’s was the perfect fit for us because of the high quality product, the great service, and they also give back to the community. The franchise owners like our #17 Famous Steak Philly sub and the general managers feel the #13 Original Italian sub is their favorite sub. Whatever the favorite might be Jersey Mike’s subs are always good!"
Smith added, “For this grand opening, we have partnered up with the Driscoll Children’s Hospital. It was the first dedicated children’s hospital in South Texas and opened in 1953. It has been a vital member of this community and we want to be associated with this great institution. We can’t wait to open our doors here and we look forward to serving and giving back to this great community for years to come!”
The Smiths and Wear are exemplary Jersey Mike’s franchise owners and general managers who share the company’s commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service, and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised nearly $13 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 1 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes. This year, the company’s 5th Annual Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving in March raised more than $3 million for 150 local charities throughout the country.
Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,500 restaurants open and under development nationwide. In 2015, for the second year in a row, the company was named the #1 fastest growing chain in the Nation’s Restaurant News Top 100, and continues to win best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.
The growth is fueled by passionate Jersey Mike’s fans who crave their subs made Mike’s Way® with the freshest vegetables – onions, lettuce and tomatoes – topped off with an exquisite zing of “the juice” – red wine vinegar and olive oil blended to perfection. Jersey Mike’s premium meats and cheeses are sliced on the spot, piled high on in-store baked bread and served up with a helping of neighborly banter from a dedicated and high-energy team.
