ZIPS Dry Cleaners Signs Six Unit Development Deal for Richmond

August 06, 2015 // Franchising.com // GREENBELT, Md. – ZIPS Dry Cleaners, an aggressively expanding dry cleaning franchise known for its same-day, one-price business model, has signed a development agreement to bring six ZIPS Dry Cleaning locations to Richmond.

Local businessman and ZIPS of Stafford owner, Samer Shalaby, purchased the six ZIPS locations with an already diverse history of two Salad Creations and one Zaxby’s, as well as a portfolio of day cares, non-franchised restaurants and properties.

“After opening my first location, I was so impressed with the support and services of ZIPS, I knew immediately that I wanted to add additional units to my portfolio,” said Shalaby. “Aiming for expansion in the Richmond area seemed like the next logical step.”

Shalaby opened his Stafford location in July of this year and reached out to ZIPS to sign the development deal a week later.

ZIPS’ success lies in its one-price model. A customer can have any item of clothing dry cleaned for $2.29. It doesn’t matter if the item is a necktie, a wedding dress or a pair of pants, the price is $2.29, three times less expensive than the industry average. Garments are cleaned on-site, allowing for same-day service.

“We are continuing to attract the highest level multi-unit and multi-brand entrepreneurs like Mr. Shalaby into the ZIPS system,” said VP of Development Aaron Goldberg. “Finding further franchisees with his passion, commitment and ability is a high priority for the brand, alongside providing affordable and convenient dry cleaning for our customers.”

ZIPS recently signed a 100+ store development deal that will provide new stores throughout the Mid-Atlantic. To augment the company’s growth, ZIPS is actively seeking multi-unit franchisees interested in joining a brand with almost no competition and “green” field territories throughout the US. Goldberg estimates there will be 50 ZIPS Dry Cleaners open and operating by the end of 2015 and as many as 80 by 2017.
