(PRWEB) August 27, 2015 - Malcolm Tyson has always had a passion for helping others. As he worked his way through his educational and professional careers, that passion grew into a love for helping businesses be strong, sound and financially successful. Now his passions are growing once more as Tyson launches his own small business, The Growth Coach of Central Maryland.
The Growth Coach is the largest provider of affordable group coaching workshops in the nation, but coaches also offer one-to-one coaching services, remote coaching delivered via phone and web, and coaching for special projects as well as alternative financing, business valuation services, sales mapping and more. Clients include the owners of small- and medium-sized businesses, management teams, sales teams and self-employed professionals among others. Tyson’s local franchise serves Upper Marlboro and Bowie as well as Prince George’s, Anne Arundel and Howard counties.
“I am passionate about working with small businesses and formulating the actions and attitudes that help them grow and be more successful. The Growth Coach was founded with that goal. The company’s philosophy applies strategic management principles to the professional and personal lives of their clients,” Tyson said. “As a Growth Coach, I’ll be able to coach business leaders so they can take the trial and error out of improving their businesses and their lives.”
In Tyson’s most recent position, he was the business manager for Sierra Lobo, Inc. in Greenbelt, Maryland. In that role, he instituted and led the endorsement of the ETIS Business Operations Team; three tenets of mission support – program control, accounting & administration and procurement – and managed various accounting and contract agreements. He also developed and maintained productive relationships with NASA management team members to facilitate business management and cost control evaluation scores averaging 93 percent. Tyson, who has lived in Prince George's County for over 30 years, also worked as the manager of financial systems and program finance for SES Government Solutions. In addition, he owned his own accounting and tax practice called Millennium Financial Services.
“After a number of leadership and executive management positions in various government contracting firms, I realized there was a lack of security in Corporate America. When my recent contract ended, I decided to finally pursue my passion of being a business owner by launching Growth Coach,” Tyson said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for our country’s small businesses, who are the backbone of our economy – and I’m looking forward to this new journey.”
Malcolm was raised by his mother in Washington DC and also was able to spend time with his grandmother in the US Virgin Islands. He credits those two women with providing him the foundation of faith and hard work. Tyson graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s in accounting from Strayer University, earned his CPA credentials and then graduated with a dual Master’s in accounting and financial management from the University of Maryland University College. He is currently a business and technology PhD candidate at Capella University with a specialization in strategy and innovation. Tyson also actively volunteers with local organizations, including youth sports, and enjoys spending time with his wife Tisha and their two sons, Jalen and Justin.
“Coincidently, The Growth Coach is a great fit because it coincides perfectly with my professional experience, education and doctoral research. Currently I am researching how small- and medium-sized businesses create, nurture and implement strategic leadership and innovation despite the lack of resources. Opening this business and earning my doctorate are perfectly aligned with who I want to be as a professional and what makes me happy. I feel incredibly blessed because I know there are people who go their whole lives without being able to say that,” Tyson said.
As a Growth Coach, Tyson is certified in The Strategic Mindset coaching process, which adheres to the standards, practices and policies that the International Coaching Federation has set forth in their Code of Professional Standards and Ethics. Tyson will be hosting his first Business Growth Workshop September 3rd at 11am at the Offices of Ezra Technologies located at 4415 Nicole Drive, Lanham, MD, 20706.
