June 13, 2016 // Franchising.com // CHICAGO - In an effort to help other women advance their careers in today’s challenging professional landscape, Shelly Sun, CEO and Co-Founder of BrightStar Care, presented as a key-note speaker for an exclusive UPWARD (Uniting Professional Women Accelerating Relationships & Development) event. The program, ‘Starting Your Own Franchise’, was hosted by Lisa Lambert, founder and CEO of UPWARD, and took place on June 8, 2016.
UPWARD is a global collaborative organization of like-minded, senior level, female professionals who come together to discuss the challenges women face and to identify creative solutions to overcome them. The organization provides a supportive place to build trusted relationships, share ideas, learn new skills, and grow within one’s career in order to navigate today’s challenging business world. UPWARD looks to help other women advance with less friction, making it a perfect fit for Shelly Sun, who has dedicated much of her career to helping women succeed in business.
“Having the opportunity to share my entrepreneurial experience, specifically in franchising, with other senior-level professional women is a great honor for me,” said Sun. “What Lisa has done to help the advancement of women in the workplace is truly remarkable and through this program, my hope is to shed light on the franchise industry and the opportunities that are available within it—particularly for talented, driven women.”
Since its founding in 2013, UPWARD has blossomed and thousands of women worldwide have joined as evidence that women are hungry for a group that can help them grow and advance professionally. Others guest speakers at the program are Joyce Mazero, co-chair, global supply network and partner, Gardere; Catherine Monson, CEO and president, FASTSIGNS International, Inc.; and Therese Thilgen, co-founder and president, Franchise Update Media Group.
Topics discussed by Sun and other guest speakers at the program included:
“As a female CEO who started a business from scratch and developed it into an industry leader, I feel a huge responsibility to share my insights and best practices with other professional women,” added Sun. “There is no better way to do that than to sit down with a group of motivated women in order to help each other overcome stereotypes and move UPWARD in our careers.”
