Black Bear Diner Recognized as Third Fastest Growing Full-Service Restaurant Chain in 2017 Technomic Top 500 Report

May 01, 2017 // // REDDING, Calif. - Black Bear Diner, the rapidly expanding family dining concept headquartered in Redding, California, announced today that it was recognized as third fastest growing full-service restaurant chain in the 2017 Technomic Top 500 Report. Technomic, a Winsight company, delivers a 360-degree view of the food industry, and conducts an annual survey of the Top 500 restaurant chains. The third-place growth ranking for Black Bear Diner is for restaurant chains with more than $200 million in sales.

“Though full-service chains continue to lag behind total restaurant industry growth, there are a few brands that have become the exception to the rule,” said Darren Tristano, chief insights officer for Technomic. “Black Bear Diner is an exception by continuing to outpace their competitors, and remains a ‘fastest growing chain’ on Technomic’s watch list. As a regional chain in the family style segment, Black Bear Diner adapts to local consumer preferences and provides the experience their customers are looking for.”

Black Bear Diner experienced increased same-store-sales over the last 24 quarters, and 15.3 percent increase in system wide net sales from 2015 to 2016. Black Bear Diner also saw a 16.2 increase in units from 2015 to 2016. The brand growth is being fueled by a mix of new and existing franchisees in existing markets, as well as corporate stores in newer markets. This year, Black Bear Diner is on track to open up 21 new units, including their 100th restaurant in the second quarter.
