Gigi’s Cupcakes Expands To Utah

America’s largest cupcake franchise heads West and awards multi-unit agreement to 24th state.

October 03, 2017 // Franchising.com // Logan, Utah - Gigi’s Cupcakes, known for its incredible variety of gourmet cupcakes with icing piled high and exquisite decorations, has awarded a multi-unit franchise agreement to enter Utah with the first location set to open in Logan in early 2018. The store will be owned and operated by Matt Weston and signals westward expansion into the 24th state for the largest cupcake franchise in America.

Prior to joining Gigi’s Cupcakes, Weston worked in his family business operating and managing hotels. Looking for a new opportunity that could potentially involve his wife Launa and their seven children, he began researching various businesses and decided to utilize his background in hospitality and love of baking when he found Gigi’s Cupcakes.

“I really wanted to own a business where I could involve my family and Gigi’s Cupcakes was the perfect fit,” Weston said. “This is an exciting opportunity for us to work together. We are thrilled to bring Gigi’s sweet treats to the community of Logan and our hope is to continue to pioneer Gigi’s out West and open another two locations in the near future.”

Gigi Butler, the founder and culinary creator of Gigi’s Cupcakes, moved to Nashville in 1994 from California to pursue a career in music. At 15 years old, Gigi started Gigi’s Cleaning Company and continued that business once she arrived in Nashville. For fourteen years, Gigi supported her dream by cleaning houses during the day and singing late nights at the honky tonks on Broadway. While she loved music, she also had a passion for the culinary arts and baking. As years went by, she decided to take a chance on baking. She took a huge risk by opening a cupcake boutique in a high rent area just off of Music Row on Broadway in Nashville on February 21, 2008 – not far from the bars where she sang.

Soon after opening, Gigi's Cupcakes became Nashville's delicacy dessert of choice and eight years later, it has grown to over 100 franchise locations across the country in 24 states - making Gigi's Cupcakes America's favorite cupcake and the largest cupcake franchise in the country.

Best known for its signature "Gigi's swirl," the bakery offers a variety of gourmet desserts, including 300 rotating cupcake flavors with sugar free and gluten free options, mini cupcakes, custom cakes, cheesecakes and stuffed cookies.
