Black Bear Diner Franchisees Raise More Than $14,000 for Hurricane Relief Efforts

Donation benefits American Red Cross’ assistance programs for those affected by Hurricane Harvey

REDDING, Calif. - October 18, 2017 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Black Bear Diner, the fast-growing, family dining concept that offers a one-of-a-kind experience and home-style comfort food classics in a fun, bear-themed atmosphere, today announced that its franchisee community raised more than $14,000 for hurricane relief efforts throughout the month of September.

“We continue to be reminded of the unforeseen impact natural disasters can have on our communities. In a mere 24 hours, a perfectly normal, happy community is turned upside down and forced to rebuild homes and lives in a way that was never expected,” said Bruce Dean, co-founder and chief executive officer of Black Bear Diner. “We’re forever inspired by our franchise partners, who banded together following these devastating hurricanes to raise and donate more than $14,000 to the American Red Cross, directly benefitting those who need it most.”

The funds raised by Black Bear Diner franchisees will be donated directly to the American Red Cross to assist in the organization’s efforts to respond to the immediate needs of the families and communities impacted by Hurricanes Harvey. Just since October 9 alone, the American Red Cross has distributed over $190 million in financial assistance to more than 477,000 households, served nearly 4.2 million meals with partners in Texas and Louisiana and provided 414,000 overnight stays in shelters.

In addition to the more than $14,000 raised by its franchisees, Black Bear Diner will also be contributing an additional $10,000 to restoration efforts in Katy, Texas. The brand is set to open its first restaurant in the Katy community early next year.
