Scooter’s Coffee to Host Third Donation Day for Sporting KC’s The Victory Project

Partnership to Help Kids Battling Cancer Continues on November 24

November 17, 2017 // Franchising.com // Kansas City, KS - Scooter’s Coffee, the Midwest-based coffee franchise that has experienced tremendous growth over the past year, is hosting their third donation day for The Victory Project, an initiative from Sporting Kansas City that unites players, staff and fans to help children battling cancer. On Friday, November 24, all Kansas City area Scooter’s Coffee locations will donate 20 percent of proceeds to the foundation to help further its mission.

This donation day is the third event in a season-long collaboration in which Scooter’s Coffee will not only raise money for The Victory Project but also help raise awareness for the program.

“The Victory Project is very thankful for the continued support from Scooter’s Coffee,” said Brandi Thomas, Executive Director of The Victory Project. “The funds that will be raised during Black Friday’s awareness day will allow us to continue impacting the lives of children battling cancer.”

The first two donations days, hosted on September 18 and October 19, raised nearly $11,000 for The Victory Project. In addition, Scooter’s Coffee is hosting a Day of Giving on November 17 in which 100% of sales made at their new 7621 Shawnee Mission Pkwy, Overland Park, KS location will be donated to The Victory Project.

“The opportunity to partner with a quality foundation like The Victory Project just made sense for myself and the brand. We see this as a great way to reach out to those in our community who are battling the difficult circumstance of childhood cancer. We want them to know that we care and we are supporting them during a difficult time in their life,” stated Tracy Bouwens, one of the owners of Freedom Enterprises, which owns many Kansas City locations. “Most of us have been touched or affected by the struggles and heartache of cancer, whether it's personally, a family member or a close friend. My mother-in-law passed away at the age of 45 from cancer. That was tough, to say the least. But when cancer affects a child, it is absolutely heart-wrenching.”

One of The Victory Project’s special initiatives is Sporting Wishes, which identifies children who receive a secondary cancer diagnosis or relapse and then grants them a wish.

“The fact that The Victory Project has identified a way to create happiness for these kids, even for just a day, truly touches our hearts, and we couldn’t be more honored to help make Sporting Wishes come true!” stated Bouwens.

Scooter’s Coffee is quickly approaching 200 locations in 15 states, and has 125 franchisee commitments to build new stores. The company is in the midst of a robust grand opening pipeline. It recently opened additional locations in San Antonio, Texas and Sacramento, California. Other expanding markets include Nevada, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri.

Scooter’s Coffee, based in Omaha, Nebraska, specializes in hand-tamped espresso drinks, baked-from-scratch pastries and features their signature drink, the Caramelicious®. Scooter’s Coffee roasts its own shade-grown coffee, sourced through the Arbor Day Foundation. Scooter’s Coffee also serves a new line of hot and iced organic teas, single-origin coffee and the original Cold Brew & Cream. This year, some of Scooter’s Coffee’s drink innovations include Shaken Refreshers and Tropical Red Bull Infusions.

About The Victory Project

Sporting Club, the parent organization of Sporting Kansas City, launched The Victory Project in 2013 to tangibly impact the lives of children battling cancer. Since then, the foundation has raised over $1 million and supported families by covering basic household expenses, car payments and more when the financial strain of a cancer diagnosis sets in. The foundation’s newest and most impactful program, Sporting Wishes, was launched this year in response to the reality that over 20 children annually are diagnosed with a secondary cancer or relapse in our community. Sporting Wishes gives these children an opportunity to take control of their happiness and make their dreams come true - whether it is swimming with dolphins, visiting a volcano or meeting their favorite Disney princess.
