Tony Roma’s® Collaborates with Seiyu to Bring Its World-Famous Ribs and Barbecue Sauces to Retail in Japan

Home cooks can finally replicate the Tony Roma’s taste, with nine products, including pork ribs, a barbecue rice bowl, and an exclusive barbecue sauce, at their favorite supermarket.

October 08, 2018 // Franchising.com // ORLANDO, Fla. - Romacorp, Inc., the parent company of Tony Roma’s®, is continuing to expand its world-renowned brand through a collaboration with Seiyu - one of the largest supermarket chains in Japan and a Walmart subsidiary - by offering nine Tony Roma’s products in stores. The program was brokered by Broad Street Licensing Group, Tony Roma’s exclusive licensing agency. Through an initial two-year contract, these world-famous Tony Roma’s products, including barbecue ribs, salmon and shrimp, pulled pork, and three types of fan-favorite barbecue sauces, will be available at Seiyu stores. In honor of the release, Tony Roma’s also created an all-new original Tokyo BBQ sauce, which is exclusive to about 340 Seiyu stores in Japan.

“The Japanese market is the next growth area for Tony Roma’s products, and it is where we established our international presence back in 1979,” said Bradley Scher, Chief Executive Officer of Romacorp, Inc. “We have partnered with Seiyu because they share our values in providing their customers with high quality food items. With eight restaurants currently in Japan, we are excited for our fans to keep us top of mind as they bring our authentic flavors home to the dinner table, and continue to visit our dining locations.”

The extensive lineup of products will come in three different varieties, and will feature high-quality American pork at an affordable cost for consumers. For the first time, families in Japan can now bring home meals inspired by Tony Roma’s and prepare meals that are premium and delicious.

“We are excited about the partnership with Tony Roma’s,” said Wally Bockl - Vice President, Fresh Foods, Merchandizing of Seiyu G.K. “Seiyu is committed to providing unique products that meet the needs of Japanese customers by leveraging its global partnership with Walmart. We will continue to introduce exciting new brands to Japan, and bring more convenience to customers’ daily lives.”

This is the latest announcement in a notable year of global expansion for Tony Roma’s, which recently added its 117th international location. With restaurants in more than 25 countries on five continents around the world, Tony Roma’s is the world’s largest casual dining chain specializing in ribs. Recent Tony Roma’s announcements include renewed U.S. restaurant growth and international restaurant openings in Peru, Spain, and Mexico.
