Tough Mudder Bootcamp Signs Agreement to Bring First Gym to Columbus

Leading Global Sports, Active Lifestyle and Media Brand to Open Bootcamp-style Gym Location in Columbus

November 16, 2018 // Franchising.com // COLUMBUS, Ohio - Tough Mudder Bootcamp, active lifestyle and media brand, continues to tackle obstacles through teamwork with the announcement today of a signed agreement to bring a franchise location to Columbus, which will offer the brand’s signature high-intensity team training fitness courses.

The Tough Mudder Bootcamp locations in Columbus will be locally owned and operated by franchisee Samantha Kerbler, based on the Tough Mudder Mission that centers on teamwork, camaraderie, courage, personal accomplishment and fun.

Kerbler plans to bring a new gym to the Columbus area next year as part of this signed agreement announcement.

Kerbler brings an extensive background in the fitness industry to her new bootcamp locations, including more than eight years as a group fitness and bootcamp instructor. She has competed as a fitness body builder and in Olympic-style weightlifting competitions, and taken part in various obstacle races and mud runs, including a Tough Mudder. She has previously supported a franchise gym opening, including running the small group training department and teaching group bootcamp classes. She was drawn to the positive, team-focused atmosphere of the Tough Mudder race style and decided to franchise with Tough Mudder Bootcamp because of those same, inclusive values.

The Tough Mudder Bootcamp signed agreement in Columbus will focus on team training and community as it increases accountability and enjoyment. Each Bootcamp class will act as a “community center” to motivate members to achieve their fitness goals through realistic benchmarks and Tough Mudder events.

Tough Mudder Bootcamp’s 45-minute HIIT classes are usually less than $10 a class with an unlimited membership and will deliver a full-body workout that is fun, customizable – to challenge all fitness levels – and highly motivating and social. Classes are team-based and designed around four pillars: Strength, Power, Agility and Endurance. Tough Mudder Bootcamp leverages Tough Mudder’s proprietary technology platform to deliver highly effective, fun and safe workouts. All classes are drop-in ready; single classes are $20 each and membership packages range from $56-160 per month.

In addition to the agreement in Columbus and agreements in place for new locations this year and next, Tough Mudder Bootcamp has prioritized several key U.S. markets for further expansion, including Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Nashville, New Jersey, Seattle and Virginia.

Locations opening in each market will be able to tap into an enthusiastic fan base, which includes more than 3 million participants who have competed in obstacle course races across the country. New franchisees will be able to access a motivated tribe even as they build their customer base with new devotees.

As the fitness boot camp concept continues to rapidly expand into key markets across the United States and abroad, Tough Mudder Bootcamp is actively seeking qualified franchisees passionate about fitness and entrepreneurship to join its system and bring the Tough Mudder Bootcamp’s tribe-building mentality to their local communities. In order to be eligible to open a franchise, candidates should have a strong understanding of the Tough Mudder brand and must have at least $120,000 in liquid capital and net worth of $400,000.

The overall investment to open a Tough Mudder Bootcamp franchise location ranges from $297,000 to $521,350, which is fairly low in the fitness sector of franchising and offers excellent ROI on the initial investment. A small footprint (2,000 to 3,000 sq. ft.), each bootcamp class acts as a “community center” to motivate members to achieve his or her fitness goals through realistic benchmarks.
