Jersey Mike's Subs Opens First Manchester Location

December 17, 2018 // Franchising.com // MANCHESTER, Conn. - Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, opened in Manchester on December 12. Franchise owner Ken Schanke held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, December 12 to Sunday, December 16 to support Manchester High School Arts, Athletic, and Culinary Department.

The new restaurant, located at 1500A Pleasant Valley Road, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $2 contribution to Manchester High School Arts, Athletic, and Culinary Department.

Photo Opportunity: A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on December 12 at 9:45 a.m. Special guests will work with the Jersey Mike’s team to slice, sprinkle and wrap the very first sub sandwich at the new location. Guests include:

  • Bridget Oei, Miss Connecticut
  • Moran, Mayor of Manchester
  • April DiFalco, president, Manchester Chamber of Commerce

Also, for the grand opening celebration, guests are invited to visit the photo booth onsite, housed in a vintage 1960 Scotty trailer. Photos will be available on Jersey Mike’s local Facebook page.

Bringing Local Jobs to Area Youth

Committed to providing development opportunities for local teens, Schanke has partnered with Manchester and Enfield High Schools to offer a work-study program. As part of the program, two students were hired as brand ambassadors, and three were hired in conjunction with the culinary program at Manchester High School.

“For more than 35 years, I have had this passion for giving to the community, just like Jersey Mike’s Founder Peter Cancro, who bought his first sub shop at age 17,” said Schanke. “It’s that authentic commitment to making a difference that first attracted me to the brand. I’m excited to be part of the fabric of the Manchester community.”

Schanke’s “give to give” philosophy is evidenced through his 30+ year involvement with an orphanage in Juarez, Mexico, where he has made multiple service trips with his family and serves on the board.

This dedication to giving back to the local community is central to Jersey Mike’s mission as well. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $34 million for worthy local charities and have distributed more than 2 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes. This year, the company’s 8th Annual Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving in March raised over $6 million for more than 170 charities throughout the country.
