RockBox Fitness Opening First SoCal Studio
Functional-training franchise continues expansion with San Diego debut
February 27, 2019 // Franchising.com // CHARLOTTE, N.C. - RockBox Fitness - a state-of-the-art fitness franchise that combines boxing, kickboxing, and functional training into high-energy group workouts - is breaking new ground with its most recent move into San Diego, and its first into California. Also breaking new ground is Kim Ryan - the former pharmaceutical sales rep and ultra-marathoner is making her first foray into franchising.
The studio will be located at 1896 Garnet Avenue in San Diego. With the grand opening planned for March 2 and Kim and her husband’s second child due March 4, the new franchisee is definitely keeping busy.
“I’m just hoping I get to go to my own grand opening,” Ryan said through a smile. “I’ve been planning, preparing and dreaming about this moment in my career for a long time. RockBox was the perfect fit for me to make the jump into owning my own business. In a way, this is my baby too.”
Founded in 2017 and franchising since early 2018, RockBox Fitness was built to avoid the No. 1 problem with any fitness program - boredom. The studios feature all the boxing equipment and heavy bags one would expect for a boxing- and kickboxing-based workout, plus an array of functional-training tools such as kettle bells, battle ropes and sleds (elliptical and treadmill machines need not apply). In addition, the studios are equipped with high-end sound systems to rock the tunes that keep members pumped and pushing hard. Color-adaptive lighting is also used to cue another level of psychological motivation. When the lights change, so does the intensity.
RockBox has four different membership types from which to choose, ranging from unlimited training sessions to private lessons. Each trainer is professionally certified, accredited and has years-upon-years of experience boxing, kickboxing, and working with a full range of clients.
“I was an endurance runner for 12 years, running marathons and ultra-marathons,” Ryan added. “I have always been a fan of group fitness and helping others achieve their goals and overcome obstacles. There is no greater joy than helping someone make a change in their life for the better.”
With seven locations already open and operating in North Carolina, company plans call for having as many as 200 total units across the country by 2024. Franchise development agreements have already been signed for more than 20 studios throughout Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and now California.
