Office Evolution Working Its Way To Portland

Coworking franchising leader makes first foray into market

July 29, 2019 // Franchising.com // BOULDER, Colo. - Office Evolution, the largest coworking franchisor in the U.S., is further expanding its footprint with a new location signed for the West side of Portland, the first location in Oregon for the brand.

Owned and operated by local entrepreneur Jennifer George and her husband John, the new location is slated to open within the next year. The Georges are eyeing sites in Hillsboro and Beaverton. According to company executives, the total Washington county market can hold at over 10 Office Evolution spaces.

“Office Evolution is thrilled to be expanding into Oregon, with an upcoming location on the West side of Portland. The entrepreneur ecosystem in the area is a perfect fit for our model,” said Mark Hemmeter, founder and CEO of Office Evolution. “We hope to provide a needed environment – one that is professional and welcoming to entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to elevate their operations. Doing so with the right partners is critical and we could not be more excited to welcome Jennifer and John George into our Ohana (Hawaiian for ‘family’).”

No stranger to entrepreneurship, Jennifer operates an Etsy shop and graphic design businesses, all while taking care of their three children, and operating their small farm. John has over 20 years of software engineering experience, where he works from home and is familiar with the benefits of shared office space. Active in their community, Jennifer, with the help of John, hopes to provide a needed space in the area.

“The suburban areas of West Portland are underserved when it comes to professional environments for the modern workforce, and Office Evolution is a perfect solution” said Jennifer. “With an increase in remote work and solo entrepreneurship, you see people cramming into coffee shops and libraries, desperate for a professional, comfortable space to get their work done. As remote workers, we know this to be true and in craving a change we came across Office Evolution. It is the perfect space for our community to do their thing.”

Office Evolution, with 64 locations open and nearly 80 in various stages of development, is the largest coworking franchise and the fourth largest network in the U.S. The model is based on local owners who are committed to serving their community, backed by the resources and distribution of a national brand and network is unique to the category. With more than 24 million non-employer businesses in the U.S. and more than 3.5 million U.S. businesses with four employees or less, demand for shared office space is high.

“We are proud of our Ohana, and we are thrilled to welcome the Georges as they bring the successful Office Evolution franchise to Oregon entrepreneurs and small businesses,” Office Evolution COO and Global Workspace Association Board Member William Edmundson said. “Our rapidly expanding network of workspaces is home for business owners living in the suburbs who need a place to realize dreams. Owners such as Jennifer and John bring the ideal experience set to ensure our members have a proper space and welcoming atmosphere to reach their business goals.”

With dedicated work spaces, including private offices, conference rooms and shared workspace, Office Evolution has solutions for every business. There are also phone-answering services, address & mail services and other professional capabilities to make each small-business owner exceed their goals. The average Office Evolution is 6,000-10,000 square feet, including 23-40 private offices, 2-3 conference rooms and a share space for approximately 10-20 people.

To augment its growth, Office Evolution is offering territories in Oregon and beyond for qualified and passionate franchisees. Including a $39,500 franchise fee, the initial investment to open an Office Evolution is between $288,000-$853,000.
