RockBox Fitness Signs Deal for First Alabama Studio
Charlotte-based fitness franchise set to open first boxing and kickboxing studio in Huntsville
December 02, 2019 // Franchising.com // CHARLOTTE, NC - RockBox Fitness - a state-of-the-art fitness franchise that combines boxing, kickboxing, and functional training into high-energy group workouts - has signed a franchise agreement for the development of one studio that will service the Huntsville market.
The brand’s first Alabama location will be owned and operated by Huntsville residents Brian and Brittney Mecomber. Though a lease hasn’t been signed at this time, the husband-and-wife duo is eyeing sites in southeast Huntsville as possible locations for their studio. The studio is expected to open in March of 2020.
Prior to being involved with RockBox Fitness, Brittney worked in hotel sales and currently serves as the director of sales at Topgolf in Huntsville. In her work, Brittney has focused on helping people achieve success in both their professional and personal lives, which she plans on doing through her involvement with RockBox. Brian worked for Cintas Corporation, where he sold facility and uniform services. He currently works as an account manager for Maxwell Roofing and Sheet Metal, and is in charge of sales for the Alabama market. The duo plan on utilizing their rich sales background to help them grow the RockBox brand in the Huntsville area. Brian also has extensive training in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and said that these hobbies helped him see why RockBox was a unique business concept, and above the competition.
“During the course of my martial arts training, I noticed that sometimes people were shy to commit to a sparring session or full contact workouts, which is understandable,” Mecomber said. “RockBox addresses that by providing people with a hybrid workout that gives them the action of boxing and kickboxing without anyone punching back! Plus, members get the benefit and satisfaction of functional training. When you work out at RockBox, you leave feeling accomplished and proud of your hard work, and I wanted to share that with more people. It truly is a totally unique concept in the fitness industry.”
Founded in 2017 and franchising since early 2018, RockBox Fitness was built to avoid the number one problem with any fitness program - boredom. The studios feature all the boxing equipment and heavy bags one would expect for a boxing- and kickboxing-based workout, plus an array of functional training tools like kettle bells, battle ropes and sleds (elliptical and treadmill machines need not apply). In addition, the studios are equipped with high-end sound systems to rock the tunes that keep members pumped and pushing hard. Color-adaptive lighting is also used to cue another level of psychological motivation. When the lights change, so does the intensity.
RockBox offers four different membership types from which to choose, ranging from unlimited training sessions to private lessons.
“We are excited to add Brian and Brittney to our RockBox family,” said RockBox CEO and co-founder Roger Martin. “As we continue to grow our brand, knowledgeable franchise partners like Brian and Brittney are vital to our success. They believe in our brand and our mission, and we are excited to see them grow their business.”
RockBox’s trainers are passionate coaches who drive the workouts. Each trainer is professionally certified, accredited and have years of experience boxing, kickboxing and training
The local expansion comes at a time when RockBox is continuing to expand its national footprint. Today, there are 16 studios operating in eight states, more than half of which have opened since the beginning of this year alone. In addition, there are nearly 30 additional locations in various stages of development across the country.
