RockBox Fitness Laces Up the Gloves for Dallas Expansion

First of four area studios has already opened in Frisco; Three more slated in the coming years

December 23, 2019 // Franchising.com // CHARLOTTE, NC - RockBox Fitness - a state-of-the-art fitness franchise that combines boxing, kickboxing, and functional training into high-energy group workouts - is planning multiple locations in the Dallas area.

The Charlotte-based franchise has signed a development agreement with husband and wife Michael Weaver and Kacie Freer to open four studios within the next few years, the first of which opened in Frisco in October. Though exact addresses have yet to be announced, Weaver and Freer plan to open the remaining studios in Southlake, Plano and the Uptown district of Dallas.

“Boxers are some of the best-conditioned athletes in the world, and they get to that level by dedicating themselves to a workout program which utilizes both cardiovascular and strength training. This is the same approach taken by RockBox and it produces life-changing results for our members,” said Weaver. “RockBox is more than a boxing gym. We’re a reach-your-goals, feel-good fitness community, and we can’t wait to strengthen that attitude in the Dallas area.”

To Weaver and Freer, these RockBox locations are much more than business ventures. They want their studios to serve as a place where people can come and be themselves and feel supported. This is a vital part of their business plan, especially to Freer, who is a survivor of sexual assault. She credits boxing with helping her regain her confidence, overcome adversity, and find her true strength again.

“I want to use RockBox as a way to help other survivors feel empowered and increase their confidence in themselves,” said Freer. “Nobody should have to go through something like that alone. Our gyms will be places where people can visit and feel part of a community that believes in them and supports them. We truly want to create an atmosphere where people feel like they are part of a family.”

Weaver and Freer also plan on offering self-defense classes and will partner with local non-profits to help causes in the local community.

Founded in 2017 and franchising since early 2018, RockBox Fitness was built to avoid the number one problem with any fitness program – boredom. The studios feature all the boxing equipment and heavy bags one would expect for a boxing- and kickboxing-based workout, plus an array of functional training tools like kettle bells, battle ropes and sleds (elliptical and treadmill machines need not apply). In addition, the studios are equipped with high-end sound systems to rock the tunes that keep members pumped and pushing hard. Color-adaptive lighting is also used to cue another level of psychological motivation. When the lights change, so does the intensity.

RockBox has four different membership types from which to choose, ranging from unlimited training sessions to private lessons. Each trainer is professionally certified, accredited and has years-upon-years of experience boxing and kickboxing.

“RockBox workouts are designed to produce results for our members,” Freer said. “Everything you do during one of our workouts has a purpose and a goal; the purpose is to feel accomplished, and the goal is to help you improve your physical fitness. Our workouts are all about you. Your workout, your way. Your input, your results.”
