Happy Joe’s Looks to Veterans for Franchisee Growth

Iconic Midwestern pizza brand incentivizes former military members to join the franchise family and spread more happiness

November 11, 2022 // Franchising.com // DAVENPORT, Iowa - Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream was founded on a commitment to providing joyful experiences for families.

Today, the iconic Midwestern pizza brand is launching a new initiative to spread more joy in more communities through their national veterans incentive program. Happy Joe’s newest initiative encourages veterans to grab a slice of the business by offering all veterans interested in owning and operating a franchise $10,000 off their franchise fee upon completion of their military service.

“We are truly grateful for the service the brave men and women of the military have given to defend our freedom,” Happy Joe’s CEO and Chief Happiness Officer Tom Sacco said. “Veterans make incredible franchisees due to their passion for serving both their communities and employees. That’s why we’re proud to offer these initiatives and hope other veterans choose to become part of the Happy Joe’s family.”

Happy Joe’s provides additional support to veterans in opening their franchise including finding and securing the ideal location, assisting with the restaurant design and layout, developing design and furnishing plans as well as providing on-site training on operations and management.

This focus on helping veterans has already led to two of the brand’s newest franchisees signing on to serve pizza and ice cream. Travis Potts, a U.S. Army veteran, is slated to bring Happy Joe’s back to St. Louis before the end of 2023, while Jeff Harding, a U.S. Air Force veteran, will open the first of multiple Florida locations in Navarre in the spring.

“The Happy Joe’s team has been incredibly helpful through this entire process and the incentives made it easier to get started,” said Potts. “Their commitment to the community is what drew us to this opportunity. It made a huge difference.”

Happy Joe’s plans on doing more outreach with various veteran’s groups and welcomes any inquiries or suggestions to its current initiatives from those interested. The $10,000 off the current standard franchise fee is a 33% discount for veterans.

“The significant discount on the franchise fee for my veteran status greatly helped us get started,” added Harding. “It showed us that Happy Joe's is more than willing to give veterans a helping hand with starting a new business and guiding them through the start-up process.”
