Jersey Mike’s Subs Giving Challenge: Help Wreaths Across America Honor Fallen Heroes on Dec. 14
December 10, 2024 // Franchising.com // COLUMBIA FALLS, Maine, and MANASQUAN, NJ – This Saturday, National Wreaths Across America Day on December 14, 2024, nearly four million volunteers, a third of whom are children, will head to nearly 5,000 participating locations to help lay sponsored veterans’ wreaths for the nation’s fallen. This includes a group from Jersey Mike’s Subs, led by Founder & CEO Peter Cancro, who will be part of a solemn ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery to place a live balsam remembrance wreath at the headstone of every one of the nation's veterans buried there.
National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) recently announced Jersey Mike’s had issued a #GivingTuesday challenge to help raise funds to sponsor veterans’ wreaths for placement. This week is the last effort to gain the wreath sponsorships needed to honor as many servicemembers as possible.
Every $17 wreath sponsorship made through Saturday, Dec. 14 will be matched up to $500,000 by Jersey Mike’s and sent to where most needed. Volunteers can also register to volunteer at a location near them from this page.
“Jersey Mike’s owners across the country support the year-long mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO. “We thank you for joining this important Wreaths Across America initiative and making a difference.”
Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s has supported WAA’s mission with more than $4 million in contributions. Last year, more than three million sponsored veterans’ wreaths were placed nationwide in honor of servicemembers.
“The continued support for the mission by Peter and the team at Jersey Mike’s Subs is beyond humbling,” said Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America. “They are a company that gives back to the communities they serve in so many important ways, and through this effort, we ensured all those laid to rest received the gift of remembrance this December.”
Since Cancro bought his first sub shop at age 17, nearly 50 years ago, Jersey Mike’s has been committed to its mission statement: “Giving...making a difference in someone’s life.” Just since September, through its national fundraising initiatives, Jersey Mike’s has raised more than $12 million for four charities: Breast Cancer Research Foundation (September), Feeding America’s Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief Fund (October), Best Buddies International (November) and Wreaths Across America (December).
Wreaths Across America started its annual Escort to Arlington on Friday, Dec. 6. This weeklong journey, known as the “world’s longest veterans parade,” makes stops in schools and communities all down the East Coast, sharing the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach.

- Liberation Monument (Jersey City): arrival 8:15 am; ceremony starts at 8:45 am
