From First-Time Business Owners to Thriving Entrepreneurs: How Amber and Bryan Ward Cultivated Success with Kwench Juice Café in Ocala, Florida

OCALA, Fla. // FranchisePR.com // June 29, 2026 — In late 2023 Amber and Bryan Ward opened North Central Florida’s first Kwench Juice Café, introducing a concept focused on a healthy lifestyle to an underserved market. Nearly three years later, the Ocala location has become a well-known part of the community.

Filling a Gap in the Market

The journey began when Bryan, seeking to diversify income, saw an online advertisement for Kwench Juice Café. It reflected a perceived gap in premium healthy options in Ocala.

Transitioning from backgrounds in quality control, facility management, and online sales into brick-and-mortar restaurant ownership presented a learning curve — but Kwench’s structured franchise model is designed to bridge that gap for first-time operators. “It has worked well for us being new to restaurant entrepreneurship,” says Amber. “This was our first brick-and-mortar operation. Having folks to call and get some direction was a big help.”

A Founder Who Sets the Right Tone

Central to the Wards’ confidence from the beginning was the transparent, grounded leadership of Kwench Juice Café Founder and CEO Chris Gregoris. From their very first face-to-face meeting, Gregoris set a tone of honesty that immediately earned their trust. He didn’t sell them a dream — he gave them a realistic picture. “He told us one of these stores wasn’t going to make us rich,” Amber recalls with a laugh, “but that we could make a fair living off a well-run store.” In a franchise sales environment where hype is common, that candor was exactly what the Wards needed to move forward with confidence.

Beyond the executive relationship, Kwench’s hands-on support materialized on the ground. Initial training led by Kwench team member Missy set the operational standard for the Ocala location. Armed with those systems, the Wards developed their own internal onboarding process — and have never struggled to attract and retain quality staff.

From Gut Renovation to Grand Opening

The path from signed agreement to open doors was not without its detours. Finding the right real estate in a rapidly developing Ocala proved challenging — a tight market with landlords asking well above market value. Once a location was secured, a difficult architect and a permitting office still working through a post-pandemic backlog added months to the timeline. Their contractor and engineer were strong partners, and once permits cleared, construction moved forward. Nine months and a complete gut renovation later, Kwench of Ocala welcomed its first guests.

“The franchise side of things was smooth,” Amber says. “Finding real estate in Ocala was tricky, but once we found our location, it came together.”

Built to Last — and Self-Sustaining From Day One

Like any first-time operators, the Wards encountered things they didn’t fully anticipate. Inventory management and cost-of-goods volatility — amplified by persistent inflation — required pricing adjustments after year one. Florida’s seasonal swings took time to fully understand. But with two years of sales history now in hand, they’re forecasting sharper and making better decisions. “We didn’t know what we didn’t know,” Amber says, “and we knew that going in.”

Critically for prospective franchisees evaluating the business model: from the very first day of operation, Kwench of Ocala has supported itself entirely. The Wards have never had to inject personal funds to keep it running — no debt, no financial lifeline required. That stability has given them the freedom to experiment, adapt, and grow without pressure distorting their decisions.

Organically Grown — in Every Sense

Kwench’s commitment to fresh, locally sourced ingredients isn’t just a marketing position at the Ocala location. Approximately 40 percent of the café’s products come from local growers — Florida-sourced strawberries, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and locally produced honey when available. Their marketing approach has been equally organic: social media, local trade shows, and a spotlessly clean storefront that speaks for itself. Customers consistently praise both the product quality and the care visible throughout the store. “The concept has somewhat sold itself,” Amber says. “We wanted to slowly build steam so we could figure things out before we overwhelmed ourselves.”

A Partnership Built on Defined Roles

Running a business with a spouse is something many people romanticize and fewer discuss honestly. For the Wards, the key has been structure. Bryan handles the administrative and logistics side of the business; Amber manages daily operations and customer experience. The division took work to establish — but once defined, it became their foundation. “Neither of us could do it all at once,” Amber says. “Breaking down our roles was the most important work we did.”

A Local Focus

The focus is on deepening the Ocala operation and maintaining local stability.

Prospective operators are advised to study real estate, negotiate lease terms, and monitor market conditions; Kwench provides a framework intended to support those who actively apply effort.
