Checkers & Rally's Taking a Big Bite Out of Franchise Fees and Royalties

Checkers & Rally’s, the iconic drive-thru restaurant chain, is literally taking a big bite out of its franchise fees and royalties as it pushes for growth to meet surging demand. In 2022, the brand is offering incentives of as little as 2% royalties for the first year for franchisees opening one or two restaurants on schedule, to 0 percent royalties for franchisees who open three restaurants on schedule and within a set time period.

“Our current incentive program is for both current franchisees looking to grow as well as new franchisees coming into the system,” said Eileen Himber, Checkers & Rally’s Sr. Manager-Franchise Development Marketing and Recruitment.

Beyond those enticing incentives, there is also a reduction in franchise fees for veterans and women entrepreneurs interested in franchising with the Tampa, Florida-based brand.

“Veterans have an opportunity to continue to serve their community,” said Himber. “Their skill set transfers well to a restaurant franchise. We recognize that and award franchises at $0 franchise fee to those who qualify.” The same offer goes for female franchisees who “bring a special perspective to business ownership,” she added. 

The ‘Big Bite’, ‘Bigger Bite’, and “Mouthful’ incentives are generating interest from inside and outside the brand and are impacting the brand’s growth trajectory. Himber said numerous franchisees had taken advantage of the incentive program so far with 9 new restaurants opened and another 60 expected to open in 2022. Some of the franchise commitments so far this year include several multi-unit agreements in Phoenix, and a 10-unit agreement in California.

“Our pipeline for years to come is robust and we are looking forward to seeing it grow further,” she said.
