The iconic quick-service brand is seeking to grow through franchising with qualified franchisees across the country and is one of the only legacy brands with significant green space available. The brand boasts strong unit economics with $1.57M AUVs (top 25% of restaurants per Item 19 in the FDD).
2021 was also a record year for the brand. Taco John's has had back-to-back record sales years due to its drive thru, remodel program with existing stores, and menu innovation that aims to further position the Taco John's as consumers' first choice among Mexican quick-service brands. The brand has also signed multiple Area Development Agreements representing over 120 store openings in the next four years. This will lead to a record number of store openings in 2022 including multiple corporate owned locations to begin opening in Minnesota.
In 2022 the brand continues to target well-capitalized franchisees with experience in restaurants to begin developing newer markets such as North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Illinois, Arkansas, Utah, Nevada and Idaho.
In early 2020, the brand bolstered its corporate team with the hiring of a new CMO, CFO and COO, who have a combined 60 years-experience with some of the largest restaurant chains in the country. Taco John's also has a new corporate office in Minneapolis, where they will also be creating a state-of-the-art support center.
In 2021, Taco John's signed the biggest deal in its franchise history with the largest Wendy's franchisee. The brand looks to continue expanding with multi-unit franchise owners across the country.
Additionally, the brand recently announced a 2021 development royalty incentive program for prospective franchisees. The new franchise incentives, which are available to franchisees who sign-on to develop traditional free standing units, include specific offers for 5+-unit area development agreements (ADA). The limited time offer is built for entrepreneurially driven individuals seeking investment opportunities in the high-growth quick-service restaurant sector, which has been powered by strong drive-thru and off-premise sales in recent months.
