Q&A with Meagan Price, Director of Franchise Marketing, American Family Care

Q&A with Meagan Price, Director of Franchise Marketing, American Family Care

Name: Meagan Price

Brand: American Family Care

Title: Director, Franchise Marketing

Age: 27

Years in franchising: less than 1

Units: 236 total centers (176 franchised, 60 corporate)

What attracted you to franchising?

Instead of working in a particular industry, it was important to me that I work for an employer that aligned with my beliefs. My affinity for the American Family Care brand is what attracted me to franchising. Upon learning more about AFC’s vision and mission, I felt compelled to be a part of the nation’s leading provider in easily accessible health care.

What was your first job in franchising?

My current role as director of franchise marketing at American Family Care is my first franchising position. My previous roles have been in corporate health care models.

What do you attribute your success to?

I am a naturally inquisitive person and enjoy opportunities that provide additional knowledge around why and how. This trait opened up new opportunities to build experience and allowed me to foster a cross-functional approach in the work space. Additionally, mentorship has played a pivotal role in my success. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge my mentor/first boss, who really helped pave the way for my career growth by challenging me and putting me in “sink or swim” situations. Those situations strengthened my skill set, knowledge, and experience early in my career.

Describe your journey to your current position

My journey into health care marketing began in 2015 after graduating from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Information Sciences. I joined a family owned and operated multi-unit optometric group where I led the integrated marketing strategy and patient experience. In 2017, I took a role with MyEyeDr., a leading optical retailer with more than 600 locations, where I served as regional marketing lead and supported traditional and social media strategy. My passion for innovation and experience running marketing efforts at scale is what led me to American Family Care.

What challenges and obstacles have you overcome in your career?

One obstacle I have chosen to overcome is being comfortable in uncomfortable situations. This stems from a piece of advice I was given early in my career, which was that learning and growth happen outside of your comfort zone. I strive daily to force myself outside of my routine to challenge my mind and acquire new skills.

What are your future career goals?

Currently, my future goals are improving upon and developing skills that help me be a stronger leader and more effective communicator. Although the end game is ultimately a seat in the C-suite, my pursuit is to have a fulfilling career representing a brand I am passionate about.

Advice to young female executives in franchising

Find your passion, create a goal, and pursue it relentlessly. Your career trajectory does not have to be a straight line. Strategic growth often looks more like a lattice. Specific to franchising, I like to keep in perspective that our franchisees have “skin in the game” and our purpose as a franchisor is to provide them with the tools and resources to be successful. Develop authentic relationships to instill trust in your partnership and be transparent in your communication.
