Maui Tacos Embraces Healthful Eating With Its Participation

March 15, 2007 // Franchising.com // - Research from the National Restaurant Association states that 71 percent of American adults are trying to eat more healthfully at restaurants. Maui Tacos, an upscale quick-casual restaurant chain offering Mexican food fused with the flavor of the Hawaiian Islands, is embracing America's search for healthy menu options with its participation in HealthyDiningFinder.com.

HealthyDiningFinder.com is a new Web site created by Healthy Dining as a go-to-guide for health-conscious consumers who love to eat out. This free resource takes the guesswork out of identifying healthful choices on restaurant menus, enabling consumers to search for restaurants based on location, type of cuisine, price range, take-out availability, and more. Nutrition information (including calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, fiber, sugars, protein and fruit/vegetable cups) is provided for each menu item featured on the Web site.

Maui Tacos will feature its Maui Shrimp Taco and Maui Fish Taco as a part of its healthy offerings. The Maui Shrimp Taco contains 265 calories, three grams of fat and 18 grams of protein (Special Request* - Request chipotle dressing on the side; not included in analysis), while, the Maui Fish Taco only has 260 calories, three grams of fat and 18 grams of protein (Special Request* - Request sauce for Maui Slaw on the side; not included in analysis).

"We want to help our health-conscious guests easily locate the most healthful menu options at Maui Tacos," said Jeff Endervelt, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Maui Tacos International, Inc. "HealthDiningFinder.com is a useful tool that not only provides nutritional information to consumers, it also proves that food can taste great and be healthy too."

Maui Tacos is known for its chef-driven menu. Its founder, acclaimed Hawaiian chef and restaurateur Mark Ellman, opened the quick-casual concept in Maui after he discovered that there were no good Mexican restaurants in Hawaii. In 1993, Ellman created a cuisine like no other when he opened the first Maui Tacos, offering a combination of the exotic tastes of the Hawaiian Islands with the bold flavors of Mexico. The restaurant's success led to its franchising, and today, there are 19 Maui Tacos locations in 10 cities across the country. For more information, visit www.mauitacos.com.
