Rent-A-Wreck Opens in Sheridan, Wyo.

May 02, 2007 // Franchising.com // Laurel, MD – Gene Woodward and John Koltiska are pleased to announce the opening of their new business, Rent-A-Wreck- the rent-a-car company with the funny name that's known for serious savings. Located at 1858 Coffeen Avenue in Sheridan, the new Rent-A-Wreck is now open for business.

"And no, the cars aren't really wrecked!" says Gene, "It's just a funny name we want folks around here to remember when they need to rent a good, clean and inexpensive car!"

A Sheridan native, Gene worked at Sheridan Motor car dealership for four years before he and business partner John Koltiska decided to improve on customer service. They noticed that many customers were stranded in the dealership while waiting for their cars to get serviced. Trying to improve on this inconvenience, they soon opened Rent-A-Wreck, operating it from the same building as the dealership.

"I felt that there was a need in town for a neighborhood car rental agency that could deliver good, clean and reliable transportation at a fraction of the prices charged by the 'big' car rental agencies," says Gene, "We can offer our customers the value of a used vehicle that's been maintained well, and give them the high quality customer service that can only come from a locally owned business that cares about the community it's a part of," he continued.

Since opening its doors to the public in March, the new Rent-A-Wreck has been growing steadily. "We are fortunate to already have a built-in customer base but we hope to reach out to more people out there. You don't have to be a customer with our dealership to rent one of our cars," says Gene, who is currently devoting most of his time to growing the new business and spending more time with his family.

Rent-A-Wreck of Sheridan marks the 4 th Rent-A-Wreck location in Wyoming for the 30-something company. A young southern California entrepreneur pioneered the concept of renting "clunkers", used cars for less than the competition. The idea gained widespread popularity as celebrities such as Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, Bob Newhart, Ringo Starr and three James Bonds have rented the older cars in order to preserve their anonymity on Hollywood's star struck streets. Today, Rent-A-Wreck franchise owners like Gene Woodward and John Koltiska rent newer model cars, trucks, sport utilities and vans.
