Dagwood Sets Up Shoppe: Announces Development Plans For Metro Atlanta Markets
Iconic Comic Strip Character to Offer Franchise Opportunities to Local Entrepreneurs
Atlanta, Ga. – A new casual dining concept inspired by the signature sandwich introduced 70 years ago by a beloved comic strip character will soon be launched in the Atlanta area.
Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppes, a fast casual sandwich concept inspired by the beloved 'Blondie' comic strip character Dagwood Bumstead, have announced plans to bring the chain of franchise restaurants to the metro Atlanta market.
Blondie comic strip creator Dean Young and company CEO Lamar Berry have selected successful local entrepreneurs Mark Detrick, Tony Ratliff, Kirk Diamond and Todd Long to serve as market partner territory developers of the region. These market partners will ensure the development and opening of nearly 100 franchise locations over the next five years. It is estimated that each new Shoppe will create 15 new jobs and do more than $500,000 in business annually.
"We are very excited to bring the first Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppes to Atlanta," said Detrick. "We plan to offer our guests a great dining experience where they can enjoy the greatest sandwiches on the planet as well as the wholesome and fun comic strip world of Blondie and Dagwood. We invite local business people interested in being a part of Dagwood's to inquire about becoming one of our system's first franchise operators."
Detrick and Ratliff will lead a Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppes franchise opportunity seminar for prospective franchisees on Thursday, June 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Duluth.
"There are a limited number of Dagwood's franchise opportunities available in our territory. We urge folks to act now, as inquiries are already coming in and the opportunities are sure to go fast," said Ratliff.
"At Dagwood's, our goal is to hand-select a limited number of successful local business leaders to serve as franchisees so we can effectively deliver our unique restaurant experience to consumers all over the world," said Frank Brown, Senior VP of Development for Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppes.
Dagwood's is a franchise concept designed for rapid expansion across the U.S. CEO and co-founder Lamar Berry, a 30-year marketing and franchising executive, expects to open approximately two Dagwood's restaurants per week in 2007.
"The response to Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppes has been astounding," said Berry. "I don't recall any new restaurant concept attracting this kind of interest so early in its inception. Months before our first restaurant even opens it doors, investors began staking their territories and securing their rights to own, operate and franchise Dagwood's Sandwich Shoppes exclusively in their markets."
