7-Eleven® Sells 1 Millionth Sprinklicious Movie Donut on Eve of The Simpsons Movie Premiere
Dallas, TX, July 26, 2007 - The Kwik-E-Mart-style signs at 7-Eleven® stores say it best: "Go Ahead! They're not called Don't-Nuts." Plenty of Americans said "I do" this month to the bright pink Simpsons Movie donut available exclusively at 7-Eleven stores. The convenience retailer sold its 1 millionth Sprinklicious donut Wednesday just in time for 20th Century-Fox Film Corporation's release of The Simpsons Movie, arguably the most-anticipated animated movie ever.
Although just 11 U.S. and one Canadian 7-Eleven stores were converted to Kwik-E-Marts, the Springfield, USA, convenience store made famous (infamous?) on The Simpsons' television show, the pink, sprinkled donuts were available at all participating U.S. and Canada 7-Eleven outlets, along with Krusty O's Cereal, Buzz cola, Radioactive Man comic books and Squishee-named Slurpee® frozen beverages.
"Not surprisingly, the converted Kwik-E-Mart stores had the most dramatic sales increases," said Dennis Phelps, vice president of fresh foods at 7-Eleven. "Donut sales at the Burbank Kwik-E-Mart, the store closest to the Fox Studios, were 1,000 times what they are in a typical day. The highest single-day sales of the Sprinklicious donut for any one store was for more than 4,200, but all U.S. stores are seeing dramatic double-digit bakery sales increases. This is certainly a testament to the quality of our fresh bakery items and our store personnel working with our bakery partners to satisfy the customer."
While customers saw pink, 7-Eleven store owners and operators saw green as individuals purchased Sprinklicious donuts by the dozen. All Simpsons-related products available have enjoyed healthy sales.
The deadline is fast approaching in 7-Eleven's"Get Animated" promotion, in which one lucky grand prize-winner will have his or her likeness animated for an upcoming episode of the TV show. More than 711 prizes are being awarded through July 31. The winner will be announced in August.
To play, customers receive coded game pieces with the purchase of select 7-Eleven fresh, cool sandwiches, grill items and Squishee-named Slurpee drinks, which can be entered at www.7-11Simpsons.com to instantly win Simpsons merchandise, such as Kwik-E-Mart t-shirts and complete DVD sets of The Simpsons TV show, seasons 1 through 10. Contest entrants who collect and enter 10 codes will be eligible to receive a limited-edition The Simpsons Movie poster.
Bringing the Kwik-E-Marts and Simpson products to life were ideas born from the collaboration of the creative folks at Fox, 7-Eleven and its advertising/marketing agency, FreshWorks, an Omnicom company. The idea had been germinating for more than 18 months, and client and agency alike were inspired by the inherent fun in this tongue-in-cheek promotion and brand experience.
