About Nation's Restaurant News Hot Concepts! Award
The Hot Concepts! Celebration began in 1995 following a first-time section in Nation's Restaurant News in 1994 titled "Nine for the 90s." This section paid tribute to the hottest restaurant concepts during the year.
Due to operator interest in new restaurant companies and emerging growth concepts, Nation's Restaurant News decided to expand its editorial coverage into a major awards-oriented event during the National Restaurant Association Show each year.
Each year the editors of Nation's Restaurant News, in concert with the "Council of Sizzle", select six emerging restaurant brands that have distinguished themselves as Hot Concepts!, the fast-growing, financially proven overachievers that are on their way to becoming tomorrow's giants. A seventh is selected as the Hot! Again Award winner for restoring sizzle to a long-established concept. The elite group is saluted with a profile in Nation's Restaurant News and an award presented during the high-energy presentation & celebration in Chicago during the National Restaurant Association's (NRA) annual convention.
About the National Buffalo Wing Festival
The National Buffalo Wing Festival is a weekend festival held at Dunn Tire Park in Downtown Buffalo, NY to celebrate Buffalo-style chicken wings. The festival is held on Labor Day weekend and culminates with an MLE sanctioned Buffalo Wing eating contest.
The first festival was held in 2002. Founder Drew Cerza, called the "Wing King" by The Buffalo News, was said to have modeled the event on a fictitious festival from the movie Osmosis Jones. It is estimated that a quarter of a million people have attended the event since its inception. In 2007 the festival served over 25 tons or 500,000 chicken wings, which brings the six year total to over two million wings served. For more information visit: www.buffalowing.com.
