Lasertech Recycling Programme Experiences Substantial Growth

September 10, 2007 // Franchising.com // - Since the first empty cartridge was returned to the Lasertech warehouse for recycling in 1989 the Lasertech Recycling Programme (LRP) has steadily grown to become one of Lasertech's main unique selling points. Since 2003 Lasertech have also held an ISO:14001 which is the current environmental management system standard.

With the LRP their customers can return empty ink or toner cartridges and receive a credit back onto their account and even have the chance to donate upto 20% of that credit to a chosen charity. Clearly the growth shows this is well received by Lasertech customers.

Customers who buy their office products and printer cartridges from Lasertech and Lasertech Franchisees are able to get their empty cartridges collected and recycled free of charge and as a "thank-you" receive a valuable credit of up to £3.00 per cartridge. The range of ink and toner cartridges that Lasertech accept 584 which covers most of the popular brands including HP, Epson, Brother, Samsung and obviously Lasertech's own brand.

Since the new WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Directive) came into force on the first of July 2007 Lasertech have experienced a significant surge in the number of empty cartridges returned. The recycling facility at Lasertech Corporate HQ in Warrington, Cheshire now handles over 15,000 empty cartridges a month, and for all, Lasertech provides a credit back to their customers.

Apart from the clear environmental benefits of returning empty ink and toner cartridges for recycling and the incentive of actually giving those that do recycle, the benefit of a credit on their account, many charities both local and national also benefit from those customers who opt to donate a part of their credit to charity. At the moment Lasertech have three official national charities, they are, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, National Children's Home and The Prince's Trust. The latter has a particular relevance to Lasertech as The Prince's Trust provided the initial funding to start the company.

Martin Hawthorne, Franchisee Recruitment Manager for Lasertech UK commented "We have noticed over the last 12 months that many of the people coming to Lasertech that are interested in investing in a Lasertech franchise, have done so mainly because of the Lasertech Recycling Programme and the benefits it could provide to their franchise. Its proves without a doubt that being ethical and green is good for business"
