Big Boy, the Village of Kalkaska and the Kalkaska Fire Department Kick-off a Village-wide Toy Drive for Area Children November 27

November 28, 2007 // Franchising.com // (Kalkaska, Mich.) –– The Big Boy restaurant in Kalkaska, the Village of Kalkaska and the Kalkaska Fire Department are joining forces to make Christmas brighter for some local families. The three partners are sponsoring a "Village Teams Up for Toys Drive" to generate funds and toys for Kalkaska children. The toy drive will kick off on Tuesday, November 27 with a Celebrity Server Night at the Big Boy restaurant in Kalkaska located at U.S. 131 S. Representatives from the Village of Kalkaska, the Kalkaska Fire Department and the Big Boy wait staff will serve patrons dinner from 5-8 p.m. The restaurant will donate 10% of the sales and all tips generated from the Celebrity Server Night toward the toy drive. The restaurant will also host a silent auction all day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

After that night, the gloves come off and a friendly competition heats up between the three partners as they split into teams and work to raise money and donated toys through December 18. All money donated by the public should be made payable to Mary-Deb Harman at the Department of Public Works (DPW) which is managing the funds.

A donation board inside the Big Boy restaurant in Kalkaska will keep track of each team's progress and will be updated regularly as the money and toys come in.

The public is urged to donate toys and money at any of the three partners' sites: the Big Boy Restaurant, the Village of Kalkaska municipal office or the Kalkaska Fire Department. Each location will be accepting donations of toys or money. Money dropped off at any of the three sites will be credited to that team unless otherwise stated on the memo portion of a check or money order.

On December 18, at a special Dinner with Santa from 5-8 p.m. at the Big Boy restaurant in Kalkaska, the three groups will tally up the funds and announce the WINNER of the competition and how much was raised. The winning team gets major bragging rights and all money and toys collected during the drive will go in one big pot toward sponsoring as many Kalkaska families as possible. The partners hope to collect enough to sponsor at least eight families.

And during the special Dinner with Santa, any child (10 and under) donating a new toy will receive a free Big Boy junior sundae with the purchase of an entrée.

"We're looking forward to hosting this exciting event that's bringing an entire community together to make the holidays brighter for their neighbors," said Tony Michaels, CEO of Big Boy Restaurants International LLC. "Not only will the proceeds benefit a very worthy cause, but our customers will be able to say they've been served by a local celebrity! And I'll go as far as saying that I'm SURE the Big Boy team will prevail during this friendly competition and generate the most toys and donations during the drive."
